Considering the team was running the letters PWR down the entire side of the car, im sure that could make way for SuperCheap.

It would be unlikely considering they already have Enzed and OzeMail sponsorship on the cars.

PWR could run quite happily for a number of seasons without a corporate naming rights partner, such is the financial strength of the operating entity behind this team, so they are hardly "desperate". But that's not the point....

The story about BJR & Virgin was another of Auto Fiction's moments of delusional fantasia.... which wouldnt be too clever a thing to do to a team looking to replace Ozemail for 2005, and potentially warding off possible new sponsors based on a report without basis, now would it?

Exactly right. And on the BJR show, featuring Cromley and The Panelbeaters (

), BJ was in denial about there being any Virgins involved in the team in 2005. Of course, now Virgin have 17,243 proposals to read, which isn't ideal, but we all know who this sport works......

It is alleged that OzEmail are out in 2005. Is this real or rumour?

You are also right, GTR, in the fact that PWR don't need a naming rights sponsor, although with Murf having Kmart and SuperCheap up his sleeve, he must be in one helluve powerful position, except perhaps for the departure of Chris Jewell

Speaking to someone who was most interested and benefiting from the musical driver's chairs in 2005, that very point was raised, and it was noted quite strongly that neither Mr Murphy nor Mr Tander had anything to bring to any team but their physical personages....

... that Mr Murphy had done some facilitation to shift Kmart from the disintegrating GMS/Dumbrell operation into one of the newly created "Symbol" spots, but that there was no agreement in place at any time that Murf was a prerequisite for Kmart Racing's continued sponsorship.....

Ozemail is likely to be swallowed up by one of the medium sized players (maybe the same one that gobbles the troubled Comindico) and it remains unclear what their new direction shall be. The noise has it that the signage will reduce in size... not leave completely

It's not like you to miss out on key facts, GTR, especially with all the contacts that you keep. I won't go into detail, out respect to a source, but given Murf's finishing position in the championship and his Kmart relationship, things aren't perhaps as safe as Kelly Motorsport as some may think.

However, if PWR have indeed secured SuperCheap, which seems certain, then all is sorted.

Well lets put it another way... the contribution of SuperCheap to the PWR organisation, should it play out that way, is more than likely to be for a larger financial contribution than that enjoyed by Team Kelly from the Kmart/Castrol lock.

i.e. the bucks are not huge from Kmart.... and the opportunity to leverage them with trade marketing appears extremely difficult and/or expensive....

Ion has been unwell for many months... it has been the subject of numerous AFR articles suggesting the future was not as bright as may have been presented by management....

Its very sad for all the people whose paypackets depend on that business to feed their families.... and for the Australian motor industry, with Castalloy and the old Borg Warner transmission business also stuck in the mire..
