Colin Hawker's principal sponsor was Toleman, who were a major player in delivering new cars to dealerships. As their colours changed, so did those of the DFVW. It was originally mainly blue with orange detailing, and as ant says, later became predominantly white with blue detailing.

I have no particular recall of Walter Robertson in the car, but I sure that Jim Price had the car at one point; it might then have been orange. IIRC it was run for Jim by Colin Bennett Racing. Does anyone know the true chronology of the car?

I'm pretty sure that the car was later converted back to the De Cadenet/Lola upon which it was originally based.

Incidentally, the end of Colin Hawker's career as I was told it is a sad story. Apparently, whilst working on the renovation of a house, a fireplace fell on his leg, breaking his ankle. The ankle did not heal properly, and Colin was left with insufficient articulation in the joint to allow him to continue his racing career.

Thinking about it, Walter Robertson did have the car; it was painted yellow. I'm pretty sure that in the Silverstone picture, it's still in Colin Hawker's hands in another iteration of the Toleman colours- vide the Toleman light blue lower body sides.

Hi Clive, good to have you (and your recollections) back. Wasn't this the same car that became 'The Duckhams Sierra Cosworth? Used to advertise their oil using a cutaway engine etc?

It's good to be back!

I'm not sure quite what you mean about the Duckhams Sierra Cosworth: Surely the Hawker DFVW was nothing like a Sierra Cosworth?

Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well there... Back in the 1980's Duckhams ran a TV advert showing what appeared to be a Sierra Cosworth driving around with a cut-away engine to show the lubrication. I had a feeling that the 'Duckhams car' was actually mocked up over a De Cadanet chassis (didn't Duckhams sponso Alan de Cadanet?), which was obviously rear engined, and I just wondered if this was the same one...
(Maybe a case of putting 2 & 2 together and making 17?)

If the DFVW was converted back into a De-Cad, hopefully the body is still knocking about somewhere? Is there an aircraft hanger somewhere full of discarded modsports bodies?

I put a photo of Walter's DFVW on 70's Super Saloon Pics page 57 no 849. Also I put W. Robertson into search on this thread. Bits there about this present subject.

Triplex Entries you might like to look over.

Just thinking about old mates I used to see week in-week out in the seventies, and wondered how many are still with us? Here's a list from a programme.
Hope you enjoy it.
Gerry.

The Duckhams Sierra still exists - it is in the Haynes Museum in Sparkford. It was a 2nd-had car that was bought by the special effects company contracted to film the advert and subsequently used by Duckhams for promotional purposes. The conversion involved grafting a VW Beetle engine and transaxle into the boot - it used to be displayed with the boot open showing the engine.

Age catches up with me!

Andy, no I know, you see I hadn't realised that way back in 2010 I posted this under my "OLD RACE SHEETS" post, at number 13, on page one. Put it down to me being 102 years old and completely losing track of what I posted and what is to be posted.

As I mentioned earlier this year in the "John Maguire" thread, I've been running the Maguire Esprit that was based on March 792, since '97 here in the US. This was successful car in Geoff Farmer's hands in late 80's i believe. These are shots from '87, and from last month at our national "Solo 2" championships (a moderate speed sprint). Pretty well preserved I'd say! Would have loved to see the Mallory event; the car is currently over-engined (4.5 NASCAR Buick) and under-cooled now for circuits though...
Perhaps someone would be interested in bringing it back to UK with 2.0 power?
Chuck

Wow, she looks superb! Glad to see she's in such good hands, and seeing some sunshine and dry race surface!
