Chris and Ian.

Chris, thanks for that, which is what I proposed earlier , that the gentleman in Japan , was actually a gentleman in S.E.Asia, back then the level of knowledge of the various countries ''up there '' if you were Australian , or ''down there '' if you were English was hardly as it is today.

That really looks like BT36-9 has to be the suspect to go to Opert, and then as we have still no reports of the car , possibly became Andrews 1980's Can-Am BT36 and Ian Henderson can go and find it and have a matched pair.

Bryan.

The second Japanese BT36 first appears at Fuji on the 3rd May 1973.
It could easily be 36-2 & I am waiting for information on when & where this car went to after MacDonald. It could also be a number of other cars. It would be nice to eliminate 36-9 by tying a date to it.

I have this ref. for a BT30 in Japan recently.

The MidAm 1980 trail has proved incorrect it was in fact a BT38. Many thanks to the MidAm guys for digging into their records for me.

I am unable to find any evidence of a BT36 in the states.
so did Fred Opert pass his "ex Rondel BT36" on to Japan?

Finally contacted Nick Overall and confirmed that BT35-28 is with Peter Shaw in UK. Also, BT35-? (ex Salisbury/Gerrad)is still with Nick Buttress, UK. Nick is looking for the chassis number.
Also, confirmed that Nick Overall raced BT36-#10 in the UK J-Brands F/Libre series for 75 season.Ian

Seriously Ted, those funny cigarettes aren’t good for you, However JUST IN CASE the "alleged" BT36 in the "alleged" barn is not a figment of some intergalactic trip, I have booked a ticket with Qantas to arrive Heathrow Saturday morning UK time.

(That Pom in Oz will be so pleased, photos, what photos?)

My wife and I are going on holidays to Queensland , and I will visit Andrew , and we will be dismantling small components off BT35-8 and BT36-1 , enought to enable a new discovery to be achievable and found in a disused barn on a property , somewhere approx. 20 miles East/ Southeast of Cloncurry Queensland, the main problem as I see it will be coming up with a creditable trail to support the FIND.

Well we ARE going to Queensland and calling on Andrew.

All the best to everyone.

Bryan.

That will no doubt be the car Bob Jane imported as a spare, and which was raced once or twice in period without anyone knowing (we all assumed if was the regular car as it was painted up the same). It was subsequently passed through various owners before, I believe, ending up with someone in Queensland.
Merry Christmas!

Now I am in a muddle as to how many have been found, are we talking the 1st chassis or the 2nd chassis?

Bryan & David, I thought there had been one found by that famous Irish Brabham hunter Paddy O’Walker, or was it his cousin from Scotland, Innes McWalker? Anyway it was in a barn somewhere near a pub I think.

Now, where did I leave that cigarette?

Andrew , David has unfortunately let the cat out of the bag.
The car at Cloncurry is actually Jack,s T car from Monaco 1971, with the experimental Cosworth FVP 2140cc eng and even more experimental Hewland FT235.5 , so experimental that Cosworth and Hewland don't know about them.
Via a long and hazardous [ nearly unbelievable ] trail , involving a reclusive billionare American collector , a mutiny , customs imperfections , and other events, the car arrived in Cloncurry , and has been gathering red dust ever since. Now we have to collect both cars before someone else ''discovers '' them,

Have another glass of red , thanks don't mind if I do.

phdm it would be useful to identify Sepps’ car wouldn’t it? I had not appreciated that it was to 36 spec. Very interesting.
By chance do you have any info on Christian Geoffroy’s BT36? I have been advised that this is chassis number 20 but I don’t understand that.

Andrew

BT36-11 it seems indeed that the car was recently sold by Newall.

No info the the car raced Geoffroy car but by looking at old posts you had some info from Remy Nee who I think builds the engine for him.

I am wondering what happened to the yellow BT36 that Thierry Demortier raced a few years ago. The car was sold but I don't know where it went and I don't know what the chassis number was.

Chris Townsend should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I have long puzzled over the BT36 that appears in one Silverstone Atlantic race in 1974 with Peter Vincent at the wheel.

Then I found these adverts in Autosport

20.1.72 'BT30 raced by Reid last year' P.Vincent, Cranberry Lodge Garage, Bryn, Nr. Wigan

and

5.6.75 'BT30 with 36 suspension' P.Vincent, Wigan

So, Vincent buys 30-8 off Reid at the end of 1971, doesn't sell it, and instead puts 36 suspension on it [hence calling it a 36 in 1974] and finally disposes of it in '75

Any help to anyone?

Chris

Chris many thanks for the 30-8 update. For me of course its especially interesting as I had that car for several years.
I wonder what they up dated to 36 spec? The suspension pick up points are different on 30 to a 36 but as I never measured them I had assumed it was pure BT30. The rear frame was standard BT30 box section with out board brakes, I had the top rear cross member changed to make it detachable like the 36. The work was done by the lads that made the chassis originally.
The chassis had been wrapped around a tree hill climbing and the starter motor fouled on the near side rear upright so I had it scalloped to allow clearance. Driven near the limit it got quite twitchy unlike the 36 I now own which is very placid by comparison. Yet it all looked straight.
It must be a rare 30 in that it still retains the aluminium fuel tanks.

Chris, thanks again & I will pass that on to its owner in the States who I know will appreciate the information, -he has all my files on the car!! -I wish I had kept copies!

Andrew
