Ugh, seeing the replay again the angle at which Junqueira hit reminds me of Ongais in 1981, Smiley in 1982 and Fox in 1995.

They said he's alert. He probably messed up his back like Ralf last year.

They did? That's awesome news!

As for any potential injuries, I'd say he's more likely to have suffered leg-injuries. The back injuries usually happens when you go backwards into the wall.

That type of head-on impact is very rare though (and usually one of the absolutely most destructive) - the three I mentioned above are the only three I can think of off the top of my head (although I'm sure there are a few others as well). Hitting the wall head-on like Junqueira did is VERY different from doing it like Nelson Piquet and John Andretti did in 1992 (spinning around before slamming into the wall, which is more common), for example.

Junqueira is complaining of back pain, say the commentators

Yup, just heard that as well. Have to admit I'm somewhat (pleasantly) surprised there has been no report of leg injuries.

Bah, Kenny just retired due to mechanical problems

Big crash between Dixon and Hearn there. Good to see Dixon walking away, despite another case of a car (or rather, two cars) spinning and somehow lining up to hit the wall nearly squarely backwards.

Got to be the aero causing that - in the past cars have continued to spin around, but for some reason they have stopped doing that the last couple of years.

I think it may be due to the little trim that runs from the nose the cockpit in an attempt to stop them flipping

Yeah, could be.

As for the race, great racing right now

Phew, very sensible of Herta letting off there - that could have been a big mess.

EDIT - Whoa, that had to get Matsuura's attention (as well as Danica's for that matter).

Well, anyone saying oval racing is boring should take a look at this race - pretty intense right now, at times

Aww man, Hornish in the wall

EDIT - We all know of the "Andretti Curse", but I think we might start hearing about the "Hornish Curse" soon enough as well... He just can't catch a break at Indy, it seems.

He pushed it a little too much round the outside?

Looked like Bourdais being so low might have caused Hornish to getting the middle of the corner "straightened" out a bit more than he expected (if you catch my drift), and as such couldn't keep it off the wall when they came out of the turn.

Also, Hearn was just interviewed - good to see he came through his wreck ok

Looks like Helio Castroneves and Bryan Herta are going for a fuel gamble.

Unless something happens to Wheldon, I definitely think he's the current favorite to win this race.

It's over - Dan Wheldon is going to win it under yellow as Sebastien Bourdais is in the wall.

One helluva race, I might add

EDIT - Andretti sounds pretty emotional, which is understandable.

Running over an air hose does put people at risk ie the pit crew and the officials. In SCSA we hand out drive throughs for that offence. With 700 plus BHP going thorugh the wheels and running over an air hose the injuries can be horrific. Just think before you say that something dosen't put any one at risk. Running over any piece of pit equipment does most certainly put people at risk
