gear ratio's

I have just entered the world of Hewland gearboxes which I can see will be a steep learning curve! Is anyone prepared to share with me either on the forum or on pm which ratio's are best for which circuit and also where is a good place to buy the ratio's. Dont worry I am not a threat to the squirty end based on my performance at Spa!!!
Is it advisable to only buy new ones or are secondhand okay? The car is a Merlyn Mk6a sportsracer with a Mk9 5 speed
thanks

For an excellent service try speaking to Andrew at BPA. Their website is www.bpaengineering.co.uk

they certainly have the advantage of being pretty close to where I live, they did some work on my diff in the Eleven and where very good. Do you think they are better than Mark Bailey who is over Calne way or are they both as good as each other?

if you're playing with ratios, I have a Windows program that may be of use. I've rewritten the dos based hewland offering, and its currently in late stages of testing. If anyone wants to give it a whirl then PM me and I'll email over the setup program.

I've never used Mark Bailey, but have heard good things about him. JP at Silverstone are also good, they helped us out once on a race day in between practise and race.

see www.racecarwarehouse.co.uk they have 10000`s of ratios and odd gearbox parts to keep you going
its very unlikely that you will get many people telling you the best gears to use at a track but they will give you a guide and then you have to work the rest out yourself and as you get faster you will naturally find the need for different ratios
