Hmmm. According to Autopsport.com:
The timming said Scott won it by 0.0010 of a second but close inspection of the videotape revealed Helio won it by a whisker so the timing accounts were reversed and Helio won it by 0.0010....

Who is kidding who? Call it a dead heat Brian but don't play silly games with us. Did Helio get the call because the IRL was worried about the kickback from the qualifying DQ decision?

Along with the Spa (F1) decision officials are simply doing things beyond belief. Motor racing may be a business not a sport in many respects but if it loses it's definition as a sporting contest it will die as an entertainment.

As long as it is governed by commonsense sporting decisions it will survive because it will be viewed as a sporting contest but it will not survive if it loses it's 'sporting' common sense. Cynicism will destroy it. F1 took a huge knock on Sunday and Tony, Brian et al had better be careful or they will destroy everything they have got.
Some may argue what they have isn't much but if the Indy 500 and its acssciates wwere brought into disrepute it could kill open wheel racing in North America. Forever.

On the basis of the photo you can argue the point (I would say Helio got it on that photo) but if the timing is the judge how do we know 2000th of a second later Dixon didn't have it.
Where is the transponder mounted?
At 220 mph 0.0010 is 97mm....

Just a quick note Teretonga - this is the thread for the Pick 'Em Contest. I was Just a quick note Teretonga - this is the thread for the Pick 'Em Contest. I was comparing the finish to the Pick 'Em Contest hence the pic.

For some silly reason there was not a thread for Chicagoland

*Off topic*
PS I have no problem with giving Helio the win, he drove a dam good race and from the photo finish his car was in front. Understand your comment re the transponder mounting (Tim can you comment on positioning), even so Helio may have still got that carring a little more momentum. Scotty got the championship and that's the main thing as far as I'm concerned. the finish to the Pick 'Em Contest hence the pic.

Thats OK NAC.
I didn't see the pic until after I made the first post.
I have since gone back to the IRL site and got different timing....

On the basis of the photos I have seen I am quite happy Helio got it. He did get there first. Autoport.com had a different slant on it originally.

Congrats Peno for the win. You are the champ.

Honorable mentions to Tim for running the show. Thanks

Surfers - how about we do a combined team event, 2 or 3 teams, split up of every 2nd or 3rd person in order of the standings (or similar)

Tim, I don't remember who posted the idea, which was to be by team of two or three people. We add the points of each person of the team and then we have the resuts. I thought it would be interesting.

Since we had 9 people who participated for virtually all of the season (ProRacer and CaptainCrunch missed the last race or two) I would propose the following teams to make them fairly even:

Peno (1st)
OpenWheel (6th)
ProRacer (8th)

The Penguin (2nd)
NAC (4th)
CaptainCrunch (9th)

drdisque (3rd)
Daisy (5th)
drewdawg (7th)

Since they are split up into threes, I made sure that each group had one 1st place person in their group of three in the standings, one 2nd place person from another group of three, and one 3rd place person from a group of three.

If you add the three places together per team, they total 15 each. Doing it by points was too complicated to figure out a fair way to group you into teams.

Does the method I chose seem to be fair to all of you?

Please advise.
