Agreed, if that's works, even better.

Now that definitely increases the cost. And there are some people who should definitely not be allowed smart phones. Fortunately my dad isn't a marshal...

No smart phone, no printer ... no ticket?? Only techno smart marshals need apply! Don't worry me, I have a printer which works - sometimes - but not ALL have these things. What WAS wrong with the system - "ain't broke, don't mend it". If I have rehashed what has been said over the last 3 pages, apols, couldn't be bothered to trawl through them!

If your not able, then a simple "opt out" button to print your own tickets should be available (and someone can send you a ticket).

If you can print them or download to your phone, then we should all pitch in and help out where necessary!

No, the circuits & organisers don't have the means to print tickets - they have to use specialised ticket printers to do that for them.

So, here's the way the current system works:

1) Circuit owner orders tickets from ticket printer, the number ordered being based on estimated demand; to ensure that enough tickets are available this can be expected to result in over-ordering.

2) Ticket printer prints tickets & sends them to organising club, which in turn sends them to chief marshal, competition secretary, whoever needs them (I'm making an assumption here - tickets may be sent directly to the relevant people).

3) In the case of marshals somebody, usually the chief marshal, gets a pile of envelopes, prints address labels from the list of volunteers, sticks labels to envelopes, or maybe even addresses envelopes manually.

4) Chief marshal puts tickets & final instructions in envelopes, stick stamps on envelopes or runs them through a franking machine.

5) Chief marshal walks or drives to the nearest post box & posts the envelopes, where they sit until the next collection.

6) Royal mail collects the envelopes, sorts them, drives them around in vans, re-sorts them, drives them around in vans - repeat as required - then a post man or woman sets out on a long walk, pushing envelopes through (usually) the intended recipient's door.

Meanwhile, marshals sit anxiously awaiting tickets, hoping they arrive in time.

Compare that with the new system:

1) Circuit owner does a mass email using addresses supplied from the organising clubs database.

2) Marshal receives email, clicks on link, retrieves & prints ticket.

Care to hazard a guess which is quicker, cheaper & more reliable?

Of course there will be people who can't, for whatever reason, use the new system. Their needs will be catered for.

Well as long as I can use my phone to turn up and show it then that's fine.

I think you'll find the email is all handled from the organising club rather than the organising club giving contact details to the circuit.

When the system was used for a pilot at Brands Hatch this info was sent to marshals:-

"......we are using the new e-ticketing system for all Competitors, Officials and Marshals. Your e-mail/postal addresses have not been shared with MSV, your tickets and instructions have been sent from the CSCC office, by post or by a second, separate email."

So there is still a fair amount of work for the organising club / CM / marshal coordinator to do in using the new system.

It seemed to work fine when we used it and I know some showed the e-ticket on their phone to get it scanned at the gate.

Same Difference!

I should have said that I don't know the details, so there was an element of guesswork in that post.
