A little Panoz LMP1 video from ALMS D.C. race 2002

I have had this clip sitting around on my video camera. Figured I'd share. At 54 seconds you'll see a Panoz LMP1 at full throttle. Great sound that was.

The short links in that video above includes one of the start of the 99 LE Mans race with those spaceship-like Toyotas and the BMWs/Mercedes/Panoz, etc. And, of course, the first coming of the Audi LMPs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=as1Ip...eature=related

There's also the wonderful green 550 Maranello in the first video. Never forget the sound of the Panoz.

I remember seeing an earlier Panoz coupe at Lime Rock in the late 90's, I think it had viseton sponsoring on it. Silver car with the same beast engine note. The Panoz won that DC race, it was a very close race with the R8. That track was pretty cool, it's too bad it only lasted one year.

I too have fond memories of the old Esperante GTR-1.

The way the drivers seemed to be dragged along by these big engines in these very long noses...
The black one with yellow flames on the side's at Le Mans '97...
My video images of them blasting allong the deep end of Indianapolis during the wee hours of Le Mans '98...

What a car. A genuine racing car icon.

Looking around I found this great amateur footage from the 1990 Mexico WSC race, there's some really rare and cool video's cropping up now, and to think this is nearly 20 year's ago!

Perhap's there should be a thread just for sportscar video's in this section?

.................I'd also recommend these very well produced '88 and '89 Le Man's review's. They have Japanease commentary, but it's mostly engine sound's.

That car was incredible. I was at Daytona 1998 IIRC when one of them got destroyed going through the tri-oval. Happened right in front of me. I've got pics of the accident as well as the remains in the back of the hauler. I've got to find those pics...

thanks for the clip, Panoz prototypes will always be etched in my memory, what an awesome sound. That was a good day to be a Panoz fan. I was fortunate enough to be at that race (in DC). Good venue and well attended considering how hot it was, it was brutal. I was also dissapointed in the vendors there. Pretty much nothing. Was thinking while there that they would see how many people were there and how they missed out on making alot of money selling shirts, doing better the next year but so much for that.

Wow. There was an Audi RS6 in ALMS?

BTW, the green 550 was Olive Garden Racing. I kid you not.

Ah, so the BMW M3 also in the video wasn't an ALMS car, but an SWC car as well?

Finally got around to uploading this vid I took from 2003 at Mosport. There's some amazing Panoz thunder at 35 seconds in!

Actually the M3's were ALMS cars. I think it was a doctor that lived locally in D.C. that entered them, there was a yellow one and a red one. The only non-ALMS car in that video is the S4.

That S4 just randomly did one lap, they must have gotten permission as the ALMS cars were just in a practice session.

You hear all those feeble, melodramatic, whining engines and don't lift an eyebrow, but once you hear that, you never go back.
