2005 gala awards

Two points on what was a predictable (obviously, we knew the winners) V8 Supercar awards night telecast on Ten this arvo...

1. Geez these guys can be juvenile...

2. Snubbing Grant Denyer and the presentation of his well-deserved Rookie of the Year title was just plain mean. Could it have something to do with he's one of the faces of a breakfast program on another network? And I suppose it's only a coincidence that Ten have launched a rival breakky show, hosted by none other than awards MC Bill Woods. Anyway, it was just petty and disappointing.

Yes i agree Jason it was disappointing that Grant was'nt shown receiving his award. Plain mean and channel 10 should take a good look at themselves.

Not surprised, just thought it was a sucky thing to do.

I like Grant. He seems like a genuine guy who's genuinely excited to get the opportunities he gets and to run around in these things. I can even forgive him for making some truly awful prime-time television specials, and for working with the insufferable 'Mel and Kochie'.

I switched it off after ten minutes. The attempts at slapstick comedy from Bill Woods was awful, and the inclusion of Sandra Sully meant that the Awards were dumbed down to a "I'm new to motorsport" type of ceremony. The only funny bit about it was Larkham's excuse for a suit.

The only bit I saw was Todd & Skaife get their Bathurst award.
and I thought it was good of Skaife to acknowledge Russell Ingall
and to wish Ambrose all the best in US and to kick their butts!

Where was this years inductees to the 'AVESCO Grid of Champions'???

Why was Sandra Sully referred to as a 'Big deal special guest' (maybe to the point why was she there?)?

Why did 10 delay it for 3 weeks giving it a relevancy factor of zero?

It looked to me like an episode of V8Superstars just without the drivers sitting on the stage. It's a nice idea to have these end-of-year awards, but a TV event this thing is not.

No drivers were inducted to the Hall of Fame. Instead, the Clipsal 500 was a 'special' inductee.

So I gather they've just run out of champions (doing two a year was a mistake), because inducting a few-years-old race seemed bizarre...

Is it just me or does the Barry Sheene Madel look stupid. The thing is huge !!!!! It looks like the medals that they give to primary school kids at sports day. It's bigger than an Olympic Gold Medal. Look at the medals you get for the Brownlow (AFL) and Magarey (SANFL) they are about the size of a 20/50 cent piece. Something like that would be more reasonable.

The broadcast is probably part of the AVESCO / 10 deal.(and 10 replay it out of ratings season )

I think the reason was is because Mad Dog has a contract to Channel 7. 7 might turn a blind eye for some motorsport commitments, but not every thing he does on 10 or Deyner might get the heave ho from 7

If 7 were the problem they would not have let him go in the first place as everyone knew the thing would be filmed, and as if 7 would have any say in what TEN showed footage of. Besides, if they had no problem letting him appear on the TEN broadcasts during the year, why would they have a problem with a delayed program running two weeks behind.

The problem here was Channel 10 (still sour grapes because he left them?), not Channel 7.

The existence of an Avesco Grid of Champions/Hall of fame, makes me cringe
