F3 cars
i have spent the last few years wondring this...what is that huge black thingy that sticks out of the engine cover?

It’s an air box with a hole at one end, which has to be a certain size to restrict the airflow effectively reducing the power of the engine

Sometimes, when they get knocked off in battle, the car then laps quicker, due to the increase in power. (this has surprised me because I would have thought that the car would then have been tuned incorrectly and have totally the wrong fuel/air mixture!)
IIRC drivers have been disqualified for this due to an unfair advantage. |
