LMP900 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
This is what touringcars should look like

The Dutch Super Car Challenge boasts a strange but interesting mix of GT's and touringcars. Those touringcars vary from old and srappy looking to the real class acts.
these two BMW 320i E46's certainly belong to the latter.

this is how a touringcar should look!

perhaps from that angle no, bu from the front a Super 2000 car is to wide for my taste, the car makers have done to much to have a "meaty" look to the car, in my opinion a Super 2000 BMW is not beautiful and neither is the Alfa Romeo GTA, the "old type" nissan primera however fit's in quite nicely with my touringcar ideals

I have to admit I share LMP900's opinions. I prefer NO wheel well arches/modifications. I stubbornly(??) associate wheel well widening with rallying/GT cars. Touring cars should remain more "stock" (yeah, yeah, a very relative/loose term).

I recall hearing many reasons why wheel well widening was used. Some said it is safer/easier to intall tires during pit stops. Then there's the BMW cheating(??) incident.

the 2003 ETCC BMW may not need such big arches at the front. I belive that the track on the updated 320 is much wider, as are the road car flares.

The classic BMW shape lends itself perfectly to touring cars. Beautifully proportioned, just lovely.

Very nice- any chance of the Jim Richards JPS 635- one of my all-time favourites....

How about the 70's Group 2 cars- BMW CSLs, Jag XJ12C, Capri RS3100- they have to be some of the most spectacular tourers ever, and you couldn't get much more modified arches if you tried......

I'm a big fan of flared wheel arches, guards etc... and smaller aero devices (small boot spoilers, extended front bumpers etc..). I'm not a fan of big front spoilers and rear spoilers though.

KA - Not the Group A version, but here is the Group C version of Jim Richards JPS BMW 635csi, from Bathurst in 1984 (co-driver was Tony Longhurst)

Here is the very first Group C BMW 635csi Touring Car Frank Gardner's JPS Team BMW built in 1981. Also at Bathurst, driven by Allan Grice/David Hobbs

KA - Searching my computer i've managed to find a pic of the Group A version of the JPS BMW 635csi. This is of Jim Richards at Amaroo Park in 1985

Thanks for those- even though I was always more of a TWR Rover or Jaguar man at the time, that JPS 635 was always a favourite- that and the Schnitzer 'skeleton' paintjob (JPS colours always looked stunning on any racing car- I've seen a photo somewhere of one of Dick Johnson's Mustangs at a race in NZ in JPS colours rather than their usual green which looked good as well)

OK, I might make some foes with this one, but I just loved the paintscheme of the HRT cars in 2000.

2nd best touring car IMHO was the Ford Capri (e.g. the Winkelhock one) of the German Race Championship in the early 80's!

I liked the 2000 HRT paint jobs as well.

Here's another good looking Touring Car, Dick Johnson's Group C Ford Falcon XE at Bathurst in 1983, prior to writing it off after a trip through the tree's at the exit of Forrests Elbow on Saturday.

Zakspeed Capris?- not sure everyone would describe them as a touring car, but they were some machine.....
