Era's of Australian Motorsport

I was just thinking how in Australian motorsport what is in and out by the public has changed over the years.

In the 50s and 60s it was openwheelers and sportscars that were popular, before Bathurst came and Touring Cars became the in thing in the 70s, although ANF1 was still doing ok, and there were other categories like Sports Sedans, and later on Group E production Cars. In the 90s it became like it was Touring Cars or nothing, and everyone fought to be on the same package to support the V8s.

Now in 2001, it seems that racing 'packages' are the in thing, giving the public the same classes at each round so they know what to expect. We have SCS/Konica (although they switch classes around, basically the same), PowerTour and PROCAR Championship.

Wonder what the next'in thing' will be.
