Royksopp, your track reminds me a bit of Philip Island in Australia.

Here's mine.
I had 4 tries, and was desperate to keep as much of the original as possible, because it really was pretty good. But here it is. Got a mix of everything i think. Ignore that little bit sticking out on the left. |

Although if you at Royksopp's mickey mouse section, there's a grandstand at the bottom of it so the 'fans' would be able to see the cars for a long period of time - kinda like the new hockenheim. |

This one has a history too. But all on one picture. The lighter the grey, the older it is.
It was a fast circuit with a banked section at the beginning, which was the very last modification to be made. Previosly, the only major changes had been the removal of the turn 3-5 complex, with the addition of a tight left hand hairpin. Other changes had been to merely sharpen corners like the old T3, and the second to last sweep. That corner is now a 3rd gear point and squirt corner, with no real significance.... |

I think it's pretty cool to redo 'existing' tracks. The provide the greater challenge compared to a blank sheet.

I've got an idea, how about we redesign Zolder?
I don't think anyone's had a go yet. I'll go look for some maps. |

Possibly.
Anyway, i couldn't find any decent maps, but i know that the track is surrounded by built up areas, and i have put the boundary of the site on this map. |

It looks quite good, P. I'm thinking of doing two designs: one like your own where I redo the existing track and one completely new design. I'll do them a bit later on.

Hmm... Zolder is not the most exciting track to redo. I came up with this. The main changes are (like Pirenzo) lengthening the main straight, but I also moved the pitlane from the north to the south side of the straight; that way there's more space for the paddock. Then I tightened the first corner and changed the second into a hairpin. Behind the old pitlane I inserted a Nurburgring-like section. Lastly I inverted the Gilles Villeneuve chicane from right-left to left-right.
Now for the complete make-over. |

It isn't reall the most exiting track is it?
When i was on the track website, it claimed to have long been one of the safest circuits in the world, with "an exciting mix of middle and high speed corners which allow the drivers to really test their skills" yeah right. Funnily enough, there's no mention of F1 at all.... |

Funny that they don't mention F1. I must say that I don't know any 'legendary' races at Zolder... except for the one Gilles V. got killed in. And maybe that's the only 'advertising' Zolder ever gets.

Gilles was, of course, killed in qualifying. The race itself was pretty spectacular, as John Watson did his usual 'burn from the stern' job to overtake just about everyone to win, outfumbling Keke Rosberg a few laps from home. It was a stunning performnce and an outstanding race - which tends to get overlooked for obvious reasons. I'll have a go at my re-design later. |

I've tried doing Zolder before.
Too many buildings and roads in the way to do much of anything. Honestly, I'd love to see the place plowed under, more for the glory of Spa. Last edited by Lee Janotta; 30 May 2003 at 19:59. |
