woodyracing should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
car too loud?

Anyone got a car which is too loud ?
what do you do about it ?

I've added a custom exhaust system to my car (no mid box) and its too loud - even with ear plugs !

i cant believe my 1.8 litre Ford Fiesta XR2i can make so much noise!

Woody,

Is this a road car or race car.
Assuming its a racer.....
I run an RX-7 in the UK Pre-83 Group1 Touring cars.
It produces about 250bhp at flywheel and the exhaust noise and heat is a perpetual problem.

However, a 1.8 (Zetec?) engine shoudln't have any problems.
If its making too much noise it may not be built properly a sthat engine needs some back-pressure to work.
Was it built by a reputable/track proven company.

If its a road car.....get a kosher legal mod unit.

Hi,

its just a road car, and yeah its a Zetec.
Im going to get a mid silencer fitted where there used to be one

But how do racers of loud cars (like GTs) put up with the sound ?
maybe its not as bad with ear plugs, balaclava and a helmet ???

thanks.

According to my RS (Tandy) Noise meter, the RX7 is about 125dBA inside at full chat.
I do not allow anyone to drive the car, even when bedding in on an airfield, without ear defenders or helmet. Ear plugs are recommended even with the helmet.
Rotaries are particularly bad since they produce 0-9KHz of white noise.
The sound pressure is suprisingly not as great as for example a 500bhp Camaro, but the V8 has a beat frequency and a max Hz of about 4Khz and so it is 'more comfortable' to the ear.
F1 running at 18,000rpm however is painful

HI WOODYRACING I have a Fiesta that I won the Super road saloon car championship in, in 1999. It is a Zetec engine but we ran it on twin 45's webbers.......if you think your car is noisy!
