Not that you can blame them. With all the mismanagement going on lately, how the APCC expects to get a field let alone Nayda's ridiculous endurance series is beyond me.

You may find that the new rules means that guys with XR6 Turbos/XR8s and SS Commodores will be more inclined to run now they can fit decent brakes to the front of their cars. That will bring some cars out of the woodwork I hope. Perhaps the Walden SS, the Chris Sexton pair of XR6 Turbos....Ted Robinson's Typhoon.....

It looks as though this race could turn into the debacle that was the 24 hour race. With Holden & Ford racing under one set of rules and the rest racing under another set of rules.
Does any one know what tyres can be used and penalties for using in excess of the allowed amount?

So Mr Holt runs a single lap when the field is behind the safety car... while his professional codrivers keep the BMW percolating swiftly.....

There is a fair amount of speed left in that car... it then pushes the boundaries of reliability, and requiring a brake change... which wasnt needed for this year's efforts.

A standard Falcon XR8 or XR6T is not as fast as a 335i twin turbo... and only some jiggery pokery of the rules and parity tweaks will balance that out.

Then if they win they can say they have a car that can beat the BMWs.
If they dont they might get a few more parity tweaks for the next year until it turns into another taxi race.

Bluntly Holden and Ford are the problem in Australian Motorsport, not the soloution.

Has anyone seen an entry list yet? From what I've heard there will be at least 40 cars entered...whether or not they decide to show up is another case altogether. Entries are still open until Friday 18th, so they have 2 weeks. I don't think we'll see an entry list until then, at the earliest.

Forty entries is a far cry from the second running of the event in 1992 which had a capacity 55 cars... but still, an improvement on last year which is good.

Makes you realise how blessed we were to have 5 - 6 hours live on TV back in the 90's.... makes a HUGE difference you would have to think when trying to attract sponsors / manufacturers.

Hats off to Denyer and the team though, its an event that I hope can grow and grow in the coming years .... if only Production Car promotors would get their act together.

Not just the live coverage of the race, i found on an old video the other day a Saturday afternoon preview show, complete with the bike supports. Featured Evan Green as well, how sad that just two years later he had passed on

I hope the event succeeds, but its a big shame that none of the race this year will feature any dark running...

The 1994 Telecast featuring Evan Green is fantastic. At the time I knew little about him, I was only a boy, but later on I came to know his importance to Australian Motorsport. The 1994 telecast, if you have a copy, is one to cherish as it is one of the last events Evan put his magic to.

Agree with the running of the event - A dark start made the race what it was. Getting up early is all part of a 12hr.... hopefully the organisers will come to their senses.

Great to see so much positive comment on this event - and the old 12 hours where terrific contests and i have them all tucked away on tape as well.

I am a huge fan of the re-incarnation of the 12 hour concept, as it has an important place in Australian motoring and i am of the view that it effectively gives Bathurst back to the competitor, and also, to the enthusiast.

Over the last few years, the 1000, as great as they have been, are now sprint races and only amenable to the exclusive 32. The 12 hour presents the opportunity for very good national level and excellent state level racers the chance to race in a geninue endurance classic on the hallowed tarmac of Mount Panorama - effectively restoring the very fabric that gave birth to the 'great race' itself before it was hi-jacked by the 'black wiggle'...

As a boy i used to love the variety of the fields that used to race Bathurst - The V8 commodores and Falcons against the nimble RX-7's and later the BMW M3's, the different varieties of cars - 4WD's, Turbo's, 4's, 6's and V8's and the Class battles, especially in the baby classes with the Corollas having the ring flogged out of them for the whole day...

And the great characters that drove them - blokes like Peter Williamson, chatterboxing his way around the mountain in his Celica, the Peter Jansons, and even the Grices and the Johnsons with their one liners and sheer tenacity.

Today, most of the established stars tow the well used lines (such as "buying a ticket to the last hour") and there are no 'privateers' as such left in the 1000 to cheer on. The "battlers" - the David's amongst the goliaths.

The 12 hour gives us a (possible) 55 car field with a great mix of classes and configurations, a great mix of makes and models and returns the mountain to within reach of the 'privateer' and at the same time provides Manufacturers with a platform to demonstrate their latest technologies in something other than a 5-litre, RWD, pushrod, 4 door, project blueprinted format.

More than 2 manufacturers can apply !

Let us hope that the race survives and thrives into what 12 hour Mk 1 looked like being. The first few 12 hours gave us some great moments - such as Neil Crompton in 1992 in the Brock Peugeot chasing Peter McLeod in the Citreon across the top of the mountain with Peter Brock giving him live 'coaching' from the TV studio...

The great drivers of the day embraced the concept without worring about corporate battle-lines - Seton drove a SAAB one year...and some of the V8 stars are today are climbing aboard - well done to them.

Without support their is no justification for a network to air the event live, but if it does go live in the future the growth will follow... The collapse of Performance Car will effectively force all Production cars into one class under the Shannons/CAMS umbrella - this could be a good thing in the long term...

Well done Denyer Snr and his band for reviving the 12 hour and long may it live.

I think the new BMW 135i (coupe) would be a good weapon in the 12 hour. I hope the Searles have another go again this year in the 130i.

Could not have said it better myself. V8supercars exclusive 32 Franchise system left many good privateer teams out of the race. Lets hope over time more manufacturers and teams see the benefit of getting so much milage around Mt Panorama.

The 135i is the car for the race. Someone had to prepare it to race under the current regulations.
Im thinking one that is well prepared and well driven should do around 2.28 at Bathurst.
