Drivers and Race Suits

I noticed at the AGP that Jason Bright was wearing his Monaro race suit from Bathurst, this got me thinking, which driver would have the most different race suits in the wardrobe?? My immediate thought was Steven Richards but after having a think about it, Tony Longhurst came to mind.

Any thoughts on this?

I'm sure that Jim Richards would have one or two himself, many of them VERY dusty... Brad Jones... Cromley...

Would Brighty's Monaro suit at Adelaide be a Holden marketing initiative?

Revolution Racegear is said to have a significant backlog in race suit embroidery.

Quiet whispers were heard at the AGP as to how the new FPR race suits got dont so quickly when there are many others still to be delivered.

Perhaps this is why 888 went to Sparco

So what about the poor people who work in a GMP/HACCP accredited food environment. I can tell you from experience that to spend 8 hours+ a day in a white uniform, with covered shoes, covered hair, and exerting yourself to fulfil your day job is as demanding... but we dont see the workders complaining about their lot in life....

I remain convinced that these things only come up because there is an audience.... (no news... = odd news...)

Drivers crying over underwear

With the drivers complaining about the perception that they will suffer from the heat more because they have to wear full length fire resistant underwear this year I was an interested observer at a lecture about motorsport safety at the recent motorsport expo.

The head of Stand 21 (who's name escapes me) showed us test results that showed that full underwear was actually cooler than wearing civvies under your race suit when you look at the persons core body temperature.

He also made a very interesting comment about that it doesn't matter if you drive Formula One or Club Cars a human life is worth the same no matter who the victim is.

Your thoughts from the audience out there? <ducking for cover>

I was interested to read that a person's core body temperature actually reduces the more a person perspires. And that if it hit too low a number, the effects are worse than being overheated....

They did most of the studies in the WRC, at the Safari rally... not Supercar, but prodrive were involved from memory, so they should have been able to give insight into the study, and the processes around it

fair enough but a WRC with a transverse engine single outlet exhaust wouldnt create the heat soak a V8 Tourer would, closest would be Nascar but they hoot along at whatever speed very rarely dipping down to the speed of a V8 so the increased airflow under the car tends to cool the exhaust headers a bit more.

spook should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I clearly remember being told of the burns suffered by Tony Edmondson in his crash at Surfers were made a lot worse as a result of him having worn his suit most of the day preceeding the accident. The perspiration in his underwear was turned to steam in the fire - results, vary very painful burns in areas you can only imagine.

Drivers should always remove your suit/underwear and dry it out between track sessions. Walking around with the top half of your 3 layer suit tied around your waist is simply foolish.

I would tend to disagree.. WRC cars run with red-hot turbos sitting in front of the driver. Heck, even >my< turbo glows in the dark after a freeway run at legal speeds!

I just don't think it is so easy to plead a special case for the V8s... (and by the way, you can be absolutely sure that the WRC cars have no heat insulation, those guys are totally fanatical about weight reduction!)

At a function last night this issue was raised by 2 V8 drivers & they both disagreed with the underwear issue. Apparently there was supposed to be a meeting this morning about it with all drivers, as I wasn't there I have no idea of the outcome, perhaps someone can enlighten me, did they have to wear them today?

from the press conference =

Ambrose is a bit bothered by the heat and the new suit.

Richo said it was tough but he is ok.

Ingall said he *cracked one* after his good start.
