NZST R7 Ruapuna 24-25th Nov Mike Pero 350

Not long to go now so probably as good a time as any for a fresh thread.

I see the format for Ruapuna is the same as it was for Taupo. i.e. The co-drivers also qualify and there are 'pik n mix' grids.

I do prefer this format as it benefits teams that search out quality co-drivers and is point of difference for the series

I see Ruapuna has fitted more timing loops so there will be sector times
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cante...b/230690580477

Good work Ruapuna fellas!

Also looking forward to seeing some full on racing compared to R2 now that ST have introduced their 'racing line' driving conduct rule.

The sector splits is a cool thing, and hopefully something that TV3 can pick up on as well, especially if there is a T10 shootout.

Either way i am sure this event will provide a perfect end to a very successful year for the ST guys

I think you may find that not to be the case. I understand they are reverting to the Taupo qualifying format.

Buggar! oh well, it'll still be a great event no doubt, and also one that many Cantabrians are talking about right now

Must say though a T10 shootout is always good for the watching

Thanks nistfan, I see it's on the ST website now. That's great news, I was disappointed that Davison was not able to race in earlier rounds due to the Andy Knight debacle

Got to ask, why change back to a formula that people didn't like. I would say that change the nomination time of the race driver to the day of qualifying so you can get it in the Sunday papers and out on the internet so the fans can know when they get to the track.

I heard that they had changed it slightly to accommodate this.

In this format it should be interesting, but I have to say I did enjoy the Shoot Out at Pukekohe more than Taupo qualifying.

The team must nominate which driver will start Race One no later than 30 minutes after qualifying. The grid for the first race will be based on the qualifying time of the driver nominated to start.

Race Two must be started by the driver who did not start Race One. Grid Determination for that race will be based on the qualifying times of the driver starting.

So anyone got any more specific info about the bulletin requiring the STs to make some chassis mods before Ruapuna due to chassis cracks?

V8ST STATEMENT:

Due to exceptionally high mechanical load's our cars experienced at Pukekohe, with all competitors straight lining the chicane at turn two, several of our teams found cracks appearing in the weld connection of the double shear, lower arm, rear suspension bracket

We have subsequently issued a technical bulletin to all of our teams, plus a Chrome Moly, three piece cusseting kit, so that teams may strengthen the attachment of that bracket to the rear chassis rail.

Love them or hate then at least V8ST are productive and proactive. This cracking is nothing new to a car with a solid beam rear axle, in fact the current NZV8s crack the brackets on the diff housing quite often. All part of vehicle maintenance.

Thanks for the reply Mark. In case you haven't seen it, I asked another question in the engine failure thread.

I answered the issue you raised, because it was the subject of a Technical Bulletin that had already been sent to all the teams.

You raise issues with engines, and although much of what has been said on this subject, including your own assertions are well wide of the mark, we continue to identify potential issues that need to be addressed in the interest of achieving the very best reliability possible.

When, and only when, we have discussed the Technical Committee's 2012 season report and recommendation for the 2013 specification engines, with the teams next weekend, will we issue a media statement, which will invariably find its way on to this forum.

Mark Petch.

I was trying to find out if what I was sent was true or not, which is why I posted it as a question. Not a statement.
So reading between the lines on your post there were not 5 other cars needing bearing replacement after Puke. Is that what you are saying?

At least 7 teams have changed bearings, some through necessity, some through precaution

I was after a clear answer. Not one that can be taken several ways which confirms or denies nothing.

I thought it was pretty clear. Mr Petch is entitled to provide information as the category management team see fit to. The fact that he is prepared to come on this forum and provide any at all is a first for any category in this country (correct me if I'm wrong by all means), and should be commended.
