New Cromwell Race Circuit
Just received this message from someone passing through Cromwell:
"The contractors have started on the Cromwell circuit. Its fully deer fenced with new trees planted inside fence line. Survey pegs all over place and machines in the pine plantation dealing 2 trees !" At long last it looks like that it is all go. |

Is it true that Quinn has backed out of purchasing Cromwell? Anyone else heard this and any substance?

Well he certainly had not pulled out as late as last weekend and the work mentioned in the 1st post has only been undertaken in the past week or so.
Remember it is a country club type facility and a motorsport museum that is being built here with the race circuit being just another part of the total complex. Remember too that on a daily basis there is in excess of 15,000 vehicle movements past the facility each and every day and that Queenstown alone has in excess of 4 million visitor nights per year. Jet in from overseas, pick up your Ferarri and saunter 40 minutes down the road from Queenstown and go and have a skid in one of the most photogenic parts of NZ, park up at the end of the day and enjoy a few Central Otago wines with your meal before flying out again, what more could you ask for. Meanwhile the tourist traffic stops to check out the history of NZ Motorsport in the museum. It is a well planned and thought through project. |

IMO, the ones that struggle are those that try to be too exclusive and too pricey to the point their cash flow is poor and a whole host of issues occur in relation to that. What you need is a mix of price points and offerings that range to cater to local tourists to manufacturer drive programs or testing and up to the wealthy with their Ferrari's. Having the ability to split the tracks into 2 nice, reasonable distance tracks is ideal. And you know what the biggest growth in recent years I have seen from automotive manufacturers, private companies, government and the public is? Off road driving. Low speed obstacle courses as well as having a high speed "rally" type track is much in demand and few cater to that. There is big growth from all three of those markets for off road driver training for government, police, companies that operate 4x4's in rural areas, to experiences for the public as well as automotive manufacturers that need a place to demonstrate their off road capabilities of their new vehicles. Having that capability in a race track facility is very advantageous for things like manufacturer programs that want to show paved road capabilities as well as off road capabilities. |
