Norrie Galbraith Award

Have just found out that Gurston have won this again this year for their exellent August meeting .What do we at Doune have to do to win it back!

well done to all concerned at gurston for this award again. Without detracting from the organisation at other venues it does have to be said that the events at gurston are usually like clockwork and this is due to the leadership and strong team of officials that give the time and dedication to the venue.

Problem is that the good people at Gurston spent a couple of week-ends up at Doune shadowing the Clerk & Assistant Clerk. They then implimented a similar regime to that they had seen at Doune at Gurston and the rest is History.

I suspect that such things as (a) number of entries, (b) number of incidents, and (c) time to restart the programme, are taken into account.

I wouldn't feel too hard done by, as both Doune and Gurston are the benchmarks for all other British Hillclimb Championship events. So to come second to Gurston isn't that bad!

Billy, you do have the best hill to climb however.

I would suggest that the toilets are one of the best of all the venues. The restaurant is very good. The organisation and speed of event is excellent. The bacon bars are not brilliant.

The hospitality and friendship is amongst the best.

We get loads of lifts up and down the hill with all our camera gear, and when they were too busy they let me drive my own car up the hill (that was the best bit !!).

Tony Wood always puts 10/10ths effort into the program and promotion as does everyone else in the organisation.

The little Naismith's (get well soon Alaister) sell our DVDs for us while we film.

The big problem is you have to do all fo the M6 to get there. But then again it is still on it's way to 'heaven',
the Scottish Highlands.

Gurston is quite good as well.

:

1. Neither Gurston nor Doune are rich clubs.
2. Neither Gurston nor Doune have the highest entry fees for competitors of the national venues.
3. Officials from Doune are always made welcome at Gurston, sources tell me the same condition exists in spades for Gurston people travelling to Doune.
4. Neither Gurston nor Doune has a return road.
5. Gurston and Doune are ran by a combination of competitors and people who little or no competition experience.

Draw from that what conclusions you will. But I'm of the opinion that any venue that can't lay claim to 6 Norries, should think carefully about whether or not they are being complacent about this important aspect of the sport. If they don't, they'll only have themselves to blame when specator, competitor and marshalling numbers start to drop off.

With 6 trophies under our belt, you'd have thought we could organise our Chairman into a decent suit to go and pick up the silverware in

I would hope that none of the above are taken into account when selecting the EVENT to be awarded the Norrie. After all none of them impact the main criteria for selection i.e. organisation.

I think Doune should get extra merit points for managing to run the event without the Competition Secretary or Treasurer being present, especially since these absences represent about a fifth of the organising team!
