Honestly I think that JST should be once again only a competition for 'Rookie of the Year'. It makes much more sense than 'a competition for worse drivers'.

I absolutely agree with you. Cammish would presumably count as a rookie though.

Personally I prefer the new system, although maybe it should be for indepedants only.

The problem with the old format was the lack of entries - so far this year it would just be Cammish, Smelt, Thompson, Oliphant, and... err...

It is good to see new driver the quality of Dan Cammish coming in to the BTCC.

I would disagree with Team Dynamics description of a 'Plug & Play' driver.

Dan has little FWD experience and no experience of BTCC although he does know the circuits.

Now the last major piece of the driver market has been slotted in to place the minor pieces will reveal themselves soon.

James Cole tweeted in reply to Cammish's announcement 'see you down the pitlane', which seems to hint he could be back. Whether that means as a driver, or in the BTCC, is open to interpretation I guess. If I'm honest, in terms of results, there's a lot of others I would rather take his place on grid...

There was no problem with the old format. It was a genuine competition between first-year drivers only. 4 drivers is plenty; American series have rookie championships with only 2 entries sometimes. All the current format does is allow people like Ollie Jackson to win a trophy without having actually achieving anything.

I'm glad Cammish has a drive in this series, he deserves it. Just a shame it's with that team.

So it's finally announced, glad to see Cammish getting a chance in the BTCC, just hope he learns FWD quickly, that's his only downside I can see

An amazing talent and a big draw for the BTCC.

In year one though, this smells of the Neal's pushing for a 4th title for Matt.

Nah, it was Lewis's little brothers dog following Platos cat which was stalking Matt Neals canary which in turn were perched in Dick Bennetts workshop.

I would think JC will be in the 3rd and final Subaru, with Josh Price, who was a last minute signing, looking for a drive elsewhere.

Great news about Cammish. A top-drawer driver who’s missed out on a lot of opportunities. He’ll adapt to FWD with no problem. The best always do.

Well, the latest round of announcements has slowed up the traffic in this thread.
Is it too early to start one entitled BTCC 2019 Rumours & Silly Season?

I think Champion Dan Cammish will re-sign with Team Dynamics alongside newcomer Henry Neal.

Mat Jackson's contract with Motorbase has been terminated with immediate effect.

Quote from Mat in the Autosport article:

"Unfortunately, this is quite late in the day [in terms of preparing for the season] and therefore I might be a spectator this year."

Perhaps nothing to do with another drive then. Cue the conspiracy theories!

Given Motorbase have Shredded Wheat, Gallagher Insurance (Chilton) and JCT600/GardX (Tordoff) backing surely they can afford to run Mat - as an expert in the car?

I'd be fascinated to know what's going on here.

Think we all do... very strange! Obviously something's happened within the last month... I guess that explains why DUO sponsorship disappeared!

Looks like Butcher or Davenport might be back in a Focus then?

That's really bad news. Unfortunately there aren't many seats left in the BTCC. This better have not been the Chiltons' doing.

But - why should Tordoff and Chilton's personal backers fund another driver? Unless they were in a supporting role.

Conspiracy theory - perhaps that was the situation Jackson found himself in?

No need for a 2019 rumours thread yet - 2018 isn't done with!
