Unless you find a way to manipulate the ECUs so that every car can be slowed to 60mph until the danger is cleared someone will lose out slightly in every situation. Even with a 60mph zone someone could go through it more times than others.
However, this is a far better idea than the former rules, hopefully it means the teams and drivers can still race, but there will be no danger to marshals. |

I like the computer game limiter idea. Good point that wewahtoutdarbyback makes about some go through the zone more than others. However you could limit all until everyone has been through it the same number of times. Even then there may be problems with lapping that means this is dangerous. These are small points though an inherently it will be fairer. Of course you may still want big gaps in traffic to deal with a problem... |

Sometimes there are full course yellows, when none is actually required, just local yellows. So broadly I am in favour. Yes, some win, some lose, but how unluckly do you need to be to lose out EVERY time?

Do we know if the 60 zones are pre-defined, eg Zone 1 - Ford Chicane to Tertre Rouge, Zone 2 - Mulsanne Straight etc, and if so how many are there and where do they start and stop?
I am wondering because it would presumably be easier for the drivers and marshals to get their heads around, rather than having an ad hoc system. |

Watching the Dubai 24h. I think that the code 60 rule worked very fine. Inforced in predefined zones at Le Mans i Think it would be a good alternativ to saftycars

I thought it was going to be somehow implemented to the cars' displays, i.e. flashing lights, like in F1, but it is completely manual with flags. |

With the old system it was not unusual for teams to throw their silver or bronze driver in the car during a long safety car period so they could get up to their minimum drive time without hurting the team's overall performance.
With the new system we could conceivably have an hour of Code 60 (or whatever it's called) instead of an hour of safety car. Would you want to put your 'worst' driver into the car and have them effectively run an hour of one lap sprints (excluding the Code 60 segement), or would you want your quick drivers in the car so they could potentially make the most of the slowing down and speeding up parts around the controlled section? Someone is bound to be napping and be caught in the wrong gear or do something else daft if it goes on long enough and concentration starts to waver. Either way, it means the bronze/silver drivers will have to do more competitive running, which throws another variable into the mix. |

I can see a lot of time being gained/lost in the no-overtake zone before the slow zone. |

Won't be sure until Wednesday, unless there is on-board footage of another car from the test day. John Lancaster didn't mention the screen at all in the video, which would point to it being team specific if anything.

Per Jordan Taylor there's a ACO-mandated display in the cockpit for the flags
