I think compared to the problems Porsche have had during races/development up until now these Fuji issues were relatively small.

Quite interested to see a bit more about how the #20 got into third place. They effectively saved an entire stop on the field. Okay the puncture gave them 10 laps more fuel but there must have been some fuel saving going on there? Surely that's why the pace dropped off so much at the end?

I don't think the Porsche's double-stinted tires... i have notes but too lazy to check.

“I did a double stint. It was quite tricky to drive today and it wasn’t possible to do that distance on a single set of tyres" could imply that they single-stinted, and "The tyre degradation wasn’t as massive as expected, but still too much to do double stints" could also.

In any case Porsche was fast, and both cars finished ... pretty good for a new car.

Yes - I should have said " they tried to double stint their tires".
So - it seems the car is fast...but only for a short period of time. Let's hope the new car has the issue (what ever it may be) sorted.

I too was unable to follow the race, so there are still many things I don't know.

Certainly, Toyota seems to have cemented its status of fastest car of 2014.

The result for Porsche was a good step too. It was an honest 3rd/4th, not gifted to them through the misfortunes of others. Although beaten by Toyota, their race pace is getting closer.

Each of the teams seem set to make a lot of changes in the offseason, perhaps Porsche most of all. The current WEC LMP1 rules are very interesting - much more so than F1, in which so many more basic design decisions are prescribed in the rules.

The #20 double stinted the tyres once with Webber to try and make back the time they lost with the slow puncture. Webber managed to keep them on for a full run, while the #2 tried it but was back in again after less than half an hour.

I don't think anyone tried to do it again after that.

Sorry if the LMP1 race was a bore to some of you guys...but overdue for a win I was on tenderhooks for the full 6 hours...from 3am here in the UK!

Yep, the boy done good!

Very well deserved and I'm sure he'll have a few more stories to tell before the year's out.

Just for a moment, I thought that maybe the #7 car wouldn't take tyres at the end and see how it fared, but it wouldn't have been a very fitting ending.

He reminded me that he hadn't won a Championship since he was 15 when he won his last Junior Karting title! That's despite numerous wins over the years in International Karting, Formula Ford, Formula 3 and lots of wins for Peugoet and Toyota.

So, Fingers & Toes all crossed here, he was overlooked in F1, their loss, our gain!
