I had a memorable (and speedy) trip to Silverstone BDC with Jack in the car several years ago, on a glorious (early) August morning. Amazing car, and a never to be forgotten experience.

Happy days, as our Delta would say!
An interesting read despite all the spelling/grammar mistakes!

Mike, you possibly know from Jack that after I finished his 250 GTO,Jack want me to restore the Galaxy as well.He drove it over no problem, then we tried to get it into the workshop-it was too wide for the door!!!!
Never got around to widening the car unfortunately. Very interesting collection as I remember at the farm.

This pub I'm in has now been invaded by loads of happy people that don't live in the real world . Annoying

Yes, many happy memories of family evenings watching Brucie. Especially The Generation Game!

Talking of telly- For Anyone that can get TV channel 'Yesterday', 2100hrs tomorrow / Sunday evening is a prog about Mike Hawthorn.'On the limit'. No idea if it's a new documentary, but guide suggestion is 'new'........ Think I'll likely still be on way home from a birthday lunch, unless am lucky.

What's an 'escape goat', bud? How many beers you had.....

Agreed.

I think they were the first 2 metallics offered on the cheaper cars in the Ford range. Odd that the colour coat either lost its gloss (twin pack used back then?) or peeled off the undercoat.

I never had a problem with the undercoat though.

I saw the car again several years after I sold it - still looked the same.

Well, the bidding's ended on the infamous Escort, the seller claiming there were some 280,000 hits & 6,000 watchers - most of them on here presumably!

For those who regret not bidding for it, there is another much more complete Mk 1 for a more reasonable £640. It's not a Twin Cam but it is French-registered.

A Scapegoat is a person who is blamed for someone else's mistakes or crimes. It comes from the Bible. It seems that a Jewish Rabbi would load all of the people sins on to a goat and turn it loose in the desert.

I suppose that I fill that role on here.

Too much time with me Delta? What am I, the other woman?

The MK1 Scort madness has reached such levels here that some are considering to turn the 4 door into a 2 door model. All this job to make replicas. I'm waiting for the day all replica or continuation will be banned from serious meetings…

Maybe you should think about an Escort rather than a Capri, Gerard!

The £640 car on eBay that I mentioned is a four-door & it does have Paris number plates...

Steady on there, chap! Luckily people here are now realising that 4 door Escorts are collectable, which is good. Did you know Ford made one or two 4 door Mk1 Mexicos? The police had one, I believe.

You can't really make a 'replica' Escort, what you can do is take an genuine/original car and turn it in a replica of a period race car. What is important is that it uses period correct parts in the replication...... I'd like to think mine does!

I was going to suggest that we could perhaps enthuse Bob by starting a discussion on the various duotone colour schemes deployed by Vauxhall on PA & PB Cresta's - how many different schemes can you recall?

Many years ago, I helped run a dance evening at our local church, the hall was on a steep slope that meant a drainage problem in the car park. One of the parishioners who attended drove a distinctive blue and white Vauxhall Victor (afaicr), I noticed that he had left the lights on and this was announced on the microphone, so off he went to sort it out. A couple of minutes later he came back with the trousers of his best suit soaked to the knees, having stepped into a VERY deep puddle next to the car (it was of course quite dark). To add insult to injury it was not even his vehicle as the band leader had the same model, and it was his with the lights on.

Why I remember this from some50 years ago is that the chap was very mad at having spoilt both his evening and his suit. His name was Hopping, and I always thought he must have been hopping mad.

The moral of the story is never drive a car with a distinctive colour scheme.

Sometimes a distinctive colour might help. At school we had a maths master & a physics master owning identical blue Austin Mini's. They were also equally absent-minded & were known to go home in the wrong car on occasion!

There was also the story of a garage owner & best friend in Norwich who bought new Jowett Javelin's at the same time. They had consecutive registrations, but one car had 'ABC 123' on the front & 'ABC 124' on the back, the other car vice versa. That led to confusion for a while.

I was sitting in my red Astra outside a shop waiting for Mrs B who then came out of the shop and climbed into a red Astra that had parked beside mine, sadly I was not quick enough driving off.

Apparently the other driver, also sitting waiting just looked across at her and said "I don't think so love."

I was in a shop with my wife and said "I'd better get into the car" as I was parked on double yellow lines outside, it was her car a white MG Metro and I jumped into the drivers seat only to find an old lady sitting in the back seat, My wife's car was parked about 20ft away
On a funnier note, in my "yoof" I was at a dance and "pulled" this young girl that I had fancied for ages. I was banned from driving at the time and had gone with a mate in his old 100E van and asked him for the key so that I could have a bit of "fun" in the back. I was having my "fun" when someone else opened the drivers door who turned out to be the owner !!! same coloured 100e van and those old FS keys opened most vehicles when they were a bit worn

My lovely bride has "hit" every house (seven) we have lived in, at least once. One house she hit three times! Tried not to go to the same body shop twice in a row. A couple were garage doors. Don't know which was more "high maintenance," the car, the house, or her!

I had a similar thing on my Riley 1.5.
Number was VAE 360.Was entually going to restor it (36000 miles from new, genuine mid wife owner and bought from Martin Brundles father John)
Anyways, had a pair of the engraved black plastic plates made in readiness for fitting after the resto.
This particular year we had a very sever winter, very heavey snow.On a trip to town over bad snow ruts and drifts,I managed to unwittingly knock off the original front plate, which I noticed a couple of days later.
Drilled and fitted the new plate and got back on with my work.
It was about two months later I noticed a slight difference between front and rear platesVAE 360 -360 VAE.Wondered why the speeding tickets had stopped😂😂
