Brands Hatch "noise"

MSV and Sevenoaks DC have now entered into a deal to reduce noise and disturbance at events held at Brands Hatch.

Report here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/7377543.stm

It really gets me when people make comments like the council official when he said about protecting residents from noise.
Correct me if iam wrong but these residents have chosen to live near a race circuit.
Even if they are in council property they can still move.
I live within 200yards of Tilbury Docks witch operates day and night if i complained about noise the council would tell me to move, after they had stopped laughing.
i,d love to live near a race circuit not because iam a fan but my evenings and nights would be quiet, and i would'nt hear the cars over my 3 kids and puppy anyway.

I think it's a good thing that there is now this agreement in place. I agree with the comments about "don't live next door to a race track!" but these people can seriously threaten the survival of our race circuits.

So to see Brands effectively safeguarded from becoming another Combe type situation is, in my book, excellent news. So well done to the people who have worked hard behind the scenes and a triumph of common sense!

Its a fair comment, but when people moved there years ago it wasn't used just about every day !
No I'm not siding, just making a point

It's a dangerous step I think. Already BH is limited in the amount of days it can use the full loop.
This deal beneath the front of 'agreement' would no doubt show a further reduction of Brands Hatch's rights to use its track.
In 4-5 years there'll be another 'agreement' and BH will lose more rights.

Wish i was a billionaire, I'd buy all the surrounding properties

He's had agreements before, why not try and find out what this one is about before you all moan about it too much.
Maybe Rod Birley could tell us more.

I know there has been a lot going on behind the scenes with all of this from what I have heard this deal has saved Brands Hatch and means that it can still be used as a motorsport venue...otherwise it was more than likely to be closed at the end of the season.

The bit i dont understand is why council's pick on race circuits i can think of loads of buisnesses that make far more noise than a circuit, and no body complians or if they do its ignored or the company pays the council to ignore it,tho iam sure all councils are honest.

Councils don't pick on anybody, they wait for complaints and then act on them. I can't think of any business that makes more noise than a race circuit while being used apart from maybe airports.

Like i said in my first post in this thread i live near docks and the noise is constant as is its expansion but complaints would be laughed at.
volume wise a circuit is louder of course. but it isnt 24/7.
i could understand people complaining if a circuit was used 24/7 but it aint.

but why would you? I live in Tilbury as well [not with banger-racer! ] and walking to the station this morning I could hear the dock announcements and can hear the fog horn thing when that goes off too, but wouldn't complain about it as have chosen to live there and know the docks etc are there. The only bit that does get on my nerves are the lorries that drive oh so slowly sometimes.....!

Living near a circuit and complaining about the noise - if you move there, know the circuit's there and complain about the noise I have no sympathy - if you've been a resident of the area for many years and the circuit has expanded with more meetings, track days etc - I have some sympathy for those people.

Brands Hatch has been a racing track in various forms for over 75 years, so any residents who have lived there for over 75 years have every right to complain. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't most of West Kingsdown 1970's or newer ( certainly is round the back of the GP loop ) and the Beauty Spot that is New Ash Green is also a recent blot on the landscape !
When I was a kid in the 60's - I used to go to brands in the summer holidays on my bike -In those days, there was no silencing on the cars or bikes whatsoever - It's certainly a lot quieter now than it was in the past, just probably goes on for longer now. However, if you are complaining about prolonged noise, what about the M20 that goes within spitting distance of the paddock ? are there restrictions on usage for that ?

Rant over, need to go and lay down for a while now ... Brands 60's AJS 7r's
Manx Nortons, Aermacchi, Yamaha two strokes that sounded like Tearing Callico, Insane Anglias and Cortinas, Bevan Imps...................... ahhhhhhhhhh

as i understand it all the agreement has done is create a legally binding written agreement that didnt previously exist and has actually made the future of brands MORE secure, so stop panicing lads, its actually a good thing for once
