Exercise ECGs and new licences an offer
Those of us over 45 and wishing to have some RAC competion licences are expected to have a stress related ECG with our medicals. As a heart surgeon I can assure you all that it a meaningless test with very poor predictive value. However these are the rules and we have to abide by them.
Sadly the cost of the ECG test and the report can be very expensive, running into several hundred pounds. With the kind support from my local Private Hospital in Hull I have secured a dozen or so slots for racing drivers to have the test. I will be happy to carry out and report the results. It would cost a single fee to charity of £120 for the test and report. You do have to come to Hull though..... Please contact me on stevencgriffin@hotmail.com if you are interested. |

As a heart surgeon, couldn't you and others lobby the MSA to get rid of the need for this meaningless test?
I don't need it for my HGV licence medical all the way up to 70 years old and over and I think I am more of a risk to others in my truck than I would be in my race car. |

Steven
Perhaps you should contact Mark Hales at "Circuit Driver" Magazine - he has been talking about the uselessness of these tests for some time ands would probably be glad to publish the details. Andy |

Stress related ECG's are only required for higher grade licences, national licences do not require this. ( unless there has been a change I don't know of)

Yes I know that not everyone needs them but IntC and Int historic which many people use do require them, as do others.
I agree that they are not a good test, neither is ARDS but we all had to do that as well! |

There is also a duplicate thread in Club Level Single Seaters (and I have edited the thread title in that one). Do we need both threads running?

I am not the first to suggest that this is a silly test with limited use. I think the MSA are not likely to drop it. Sometimes folk are not to be confused by the facts...As falsemob says Stress ECGs are not used for HGV, PSV, RAF or airlines unless of course there is a clinical reason
All I am trying to do is offer a cheap service to fellow racers and send a bit for charity. I am not on some drive to change the rules or annoy anyone. |

Great offer Steve. Thank you.
PS Know any philanthropic colleagues on the South Coast? |

A message from MSV for you:
MSVR will be carrying out Stress Related ECG’s at Race Car Live! at Brands Hatch on October 29th. These Stress Related ECG’s are required for International licence holders aged 45 or over. They will cost £175 and must be booked and paid for in advance. To book yours, call David Scott at Brands Hatch on 01474 875229. You’ll need your credit card handy when calling. Regular medicals for new licence applicants can be carried out with no appointment required. |

Nice idea if they do the rest of the medical with it.
Do they? |

Looks like Jonathan P has beaten me to it! £175 is a good deal.
