It's the cars that stop overtaking
I watched a touring car race at silverstone and there was a lot of overtaking in it. Plus the cars don't take damage as easily as F1 cars. This proves that the way F1 cars are designed makes it nearly impossible to overtake on the track. Do you see much overtaking in an F1 race at silverstone? I don't.

thats why we need drivers in F1 like Juan Pablo , Kimi , Sato and Massa , because they are Racers at heart .

I think the tracks don't help either. But the cars certainly don't either.

It's mainly the cars, definantly, and it's all to do with aerodynamic grip, simple as that. But of course, that tracks dont help either, with such wonders as the Hungaroring....

That's the spirit of Touring cars. They aren't open wheeled. They don't have to worry so much. They can go for chances without launching over each other. A little tap here and there doesn't matter.. They do it all the time. Sometimes, they don't even overtake, they just push each other out of the way..
I was at Silverstone and saw the races. They were tagging each other left right and centre!! There was bodywork and advertising hoardings all over the place! I swear there wasn't a single car there that had all their panels straight at the end of the feature race!! |

Schumacher is the big cruisader against overtaking. In his early years with Damon he would take the floor at the driver's briefing, warning everyone that it was to dangerous to pass (especially him Ha Ha!) so much that now the stewarts are giving penalties to everyone, everywhere a pass is atempted.
For god sake, let them race. Last edited by freeze; 9 Jun 2002 at 00:32. |

It is the cars mainly,IMHO they should go back to steel brakes to lengthen corner braking distances.
Also make the cars flat bottomed from front to rear with single element rear wings. |

The cars, the tracks..... even the drivers themselves are afraid to take a chance at overtaking moves.
That's why we need more drivers like JPM (and perhaps JV) on the grid who aren't afraid to race wheel-to-wheel, and won't resort to dirty tactics to get the position. But the cars are the biggest problem. |

the tracks are too small and the cars are too fast...its a dangerous combination - F1 doesnt go to the bet tracks in the world, it goes to the ones that are easy for the TV crews to marshall - as in Hockenheim.
F1 has reached a point where it could lessen and go in favour of racing - or it could grow into a sell-out sport. |

BTCC have "success ballast" I believe, together with many other regulations designed to even out the performance of the cars. Obviously there is a large element in this of the aerodynamics not working well in dirty air (in F1), but the principal reason for lack of overtaking is differential in car performance - you can't overtake if you're losing ground at half a second or more per lap.
