I came within 2-tenths of a second on the Quals avg. and the FL Quals speed from leading the quals round by A LOT of points.

Lost 8 potential points because NBU had better speed picks than I did by about 2 tenths of an mph margin.

If you search back, I won the first three "Pick 'Em" contests held in this forum...that's why I "retired"....

Not sure about my race picks, because I played them a little looser than the quals picks, but I was pleased overall...

Here are your Final Quals Results of the 2010 contest season;

marco, drew and Tim all had Dario on the Pole for 2 pts. each

NBU was closest to the 2-lap avg.: Actual-213.187 NBU 213.213 (a scant 0.020 off)

Great Pick!

BTW: Mine missed by only 0.282

NBU, marco and Tim also had Dario for the Fast Lap for 2 pts.

NBU got closest to the speed plus the bonus: Actual-213.252 NBU-213.312
(just 0.060 off)

Also incredible!!!!!!!!

Mine was 0.247 off...

In the "Top Six, Tim had 6 pts. (3 correct), drew & NBU had 5 pts. each and all others had 4 pts.

NBU, marco and drew had Milk Dud as the slow qualifier for 2 pts. each (Saavedra was a dumb pick for me, but I felt his lack of IICS driving experience might bite him, as did the others who didn't earn a point here)

drew also was closest to the Slow Speed and got the bonus: Actual-207.961 drew-209.144

Nice pick, drew...you needed it in the title chase...

In the "Just Miss," NBU, Daisy and Tim all got a point for picking someone who made the first three rows.

Results after Quals:

1. NaBUru38 - 14 pts.
2. drewdawg727 - 13 pts.
3. marcostraz - 12 pts.
4. Tim N. - 11 pts.
5. Daisy - 5 pts.
6. Yannick - 4 pts.

Not nearly as confident with my race picks, but I felt good about my Quals...

Carpenter dropped off by getting a little high in 3 and 4 in quals on his second lap or I would have had even more points..He was 5th after the first lap in his run...

Yes...I picked him Fifth...

My how close Indycar racing is on the track...and back here in this contest for that matter.

For being a "rusty" former champ, I have to feel pretty good about my showing...

Maybe if I soak in a vat of WD-40 tonight, I might just be a "spoiler" in this final event...

Nah....won't happen with my picks...

Have fun this weekend and enjoy the race!

Good Luck to All!!!!

I Just Missed the win...if that last caution wouldn't have come out, Helio had the fuel strategy to win it...I gambled on that, but came up short.

Congrats to NaBUru38 for the win, and to drewdawg727 for winning the 2010 Forum "Pick 'Em" Contest Season Championship!

Final Season results coming shortly!

Thanks for participating!

I had a lot of fun scoring it and watching the picks!

Yahoo, I'm now an all-round IndyCar picker! You nearly got me, Tim. Everyone have a nice off-season.

After 7 seasons of Pick Ems I finally reach the top! Didn't come easy though, I had some "Power syndrome" yesterday afternoon....

2004: 6th
2005: 4th
2006: 6th
2007: 2nd
2008: 7th
2009: 5th

NOTE: I came in 2nd in 07, but drdisque was in a class of his own...but I was "best of the rest".
I wish I had some of the guys to compete against in previous seasons that smoked me around, but I am happy that I am the victor and I look forward to '011.

Now would normally be the time I suggest to Tim about some new potential "pick" questions to answer like I do every year...however we had a deal at the end of the Motegi race Tim see YOU in 2011!!

Congratulations drew for winning the contest. I mean it's awesome, as Helio would say.

Regarding the Silly Season, I cannot guarantee my participation in the next season's contest. Rather, it is more likely that I'll be making only select starts.
For a rookie and part-time entry, I'm very happy with P5 in the final standings.

One that I am thinking about adding to the contest is:

"Driver Who Will Lead The Most Laps"

The ICS gives two points for this...I think I should, too...

If you picked a driver who did not lead the most laps, but did lead at least one lap, that would get you 1 pt.

Thoughts?

In previous seasons, drew spent about 5-6 weeks away from any computer access during the early summer.

He would send me his picks via PM on this site before leaving, which really hurt his results in some race selections because they were submitted far in advance, so he couldn't factor in things like team momentum and such that can play into this contest.

This year, he didn't have to do that and his picks were much more consistent and effective...It made the difference.

That's a good idea, Tim.

The system of picking top six qualifiers and top five finishers isn't perfect. How about this:
o- For the win pick, give 5 points if correct, 3 points if the driver was second, 2 if third, 1 if fourth or fifth.
o- For the second and third finishers picks and pole pick, give 3 points if correct, 2 points if podium / outside front row, 1 point if listed elsewhere.
o- For fourth to fifth finishers / second and third rows and just miss the fastest six, give 2 points if correct, 1 point if listed elsewhere.

Best lap of the weekend, slowest qualifier and first car out of the race aren't interesting to me. How about "pole-to-tenth ratio"? "The qualifiying time for the 10th driver equals 101.6% / 103.2% of the pole lap time."

The problem with milestones is that they may fall during a pitting window. Your could have leader picks after the first pitstop, after the second and leader after the last.

Congratulations for Drew winning the championship and to NaBru finally winning a round this season . I'm satisfied with my 3rd place, but I'm aiming higher for next year.

I'll think about these, but the milestones are in there for that exact reason...You have to think about pit strategies, etc., when you make those picks.

Also, on the Top 6 and Top 5 picks, you're assuming that people are picking those exact spots correctly...it does happen if you picked the Pole winner (total of 4 pts. for correct Pole Pick and correct spot) already to a degree, but most people do not select those spots in order...

That is why I do the 2 pts correct spot and 1 pt. in the trop 5 or six, but not correct spot.

It is easier to score and to understand.
