We always used to have trouble after the winter lay up with our old race transporter. This was a converted coach style vehicle with four huge 6V batteries connected up to make 24V.
Apparently in was the cold weather that was killing them. The year we removed them and kept them in the workshop over the winter, and re-fitted them before the season started, everything was OK.

New one in the car today. Car is in heated garage all winter. Next winter I plan to disconnect it and leave it see if that works better.

Worth a try,but could just be part of the bad batch. They drop a cell virtually overnight.

Sounds like you'd be better just buying a cheap battery each year when you need it....

Tho come to think about it if you are buying a battery from a dealer you probably are buying a cheap one - expensively......

We started the engine on my "Winter" project for the first time in 33 years yesterday. There was a great deal of this before it finally burst into life...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sf9-SZaSecw

When it did finally start I was to busy checking oil pressure and looking for leaks to press the record button...

Just done an engine rebuild on a friends MK1 escort lotus twin cam. One of the other jobs is to sort the rev counter, it has roughly run 2000rpm too high for years. Does anybody know of a decent company/contact who can repair/recalibrate one of these. It is the original unit from new, 1969!
Thanks

Martin got a bit stuck while I was in Monza so he had a bit of a play with the Escort. Carbs fitted but looks like I will have a problem with the trumpits hitting the bonnet. Funny thing me and Mike had a wander around the junk stalls at Monza and there on one stall was an pinto inlet manifold and a pair of IDF's for sale. 750 euro's. How much!!!! I was well chuffed as I did not pay that much for mine new!!!!.

LOL

I'm thinking its because I'm used to seeing Gp1 rally cars with filters rather than trumpets - well, thats the only explanation I can think of.

I think they usually use a shorter trumpet than that or a pancake air filter which personally I would use as thats just asking to ingest something nasty.

Sorry Mate, my expertise stops at rear derailleurs.

Suspect stacks aren't Escort fit, but K&N do 44IDF filters of various heights.

K7N can also provide "stub stacks" to improve airflow inside the filter.
