Roger's Samara was a Super Road Saloon, but he also ran it in Mod-Prods.
It was surprisingly quick with Roger at the helm.

Yes it was Rogers old car and being driven by a guy who was a good friend of his before he passed away. Told me some interesting facts about Rogers racing Ladas and history of the cars.

Hi Al,
750 MC, organised five races last season 8V and 16V classes just to test the water, first race at Cadwell had 17 cars I think, finished at Mallory with 26 cars,It has now gained MSA championship status 12 months early for '08
and with over 40 drivers registered allready it's looking good !
Standard road cars with MOT's, Control tyres and camshafts, subsidised Roll cages and Dampers is all helping keep the costs down and a nice tight set of technical regs should help stop the cheque book bridgade kidnapping the series ???
First race Snetterton middle of march then on to Brands hatch middle of April
10 rounds in total. It was really good for me, I had an old Mk2 16v sat in my garage gathering dust, just like me ! so I thought park the zimmer and have
another go,finished 5th in class at mallory (building new car and engine as we speak) looks like Ive been bitten again !
Regards,
Ray

Hello Ray! Blimey long time no see.

I'm fairly sure I've still got some earwigs that fell out of your Mk2 at Lydden.....

Glad to see you're back out doing a bit again.

Did you ever get that Scirroco to hold together? Or has it taken 16 years to pay off what it cost you!!!

I still have a Nova (or two) somewhere in the weeds. I've been threatening to get my GSi de-rusted and running again for the TTRS. OR, finishing the "project" and making a very nasty little lightweight thing out of it.

That's after I get Harry ready to run again, which will be after I get my ASCAR ready to go for this season's serious stuff.

Rob.

Hi Rob,
Good to hear from you, this is just like going to one of those parties where you think no one will know who you are!! My Kids are really suprised anybody remembered me ( I've allways told them I was a super star in the good old days ).
In the end I had to scrap the scirroco, went to a meeting at Brands, car running really well, journalist turned up from a VW mag to do an artical went into scrutineering and a little man came out with a magnet in his pocket and it would'ant stick to the alloy roll cage !! He would'ant give me a ticket so I was forced to cut the car up,he said the RAC had banned them at the start of the season ! I never did like reading books especially blue ones (quite enjoy them now! )
I kept all the bits, engine gearbox etc, would make a nice Golf, who knows ?
Regards,
Ray

Hi Ray, nice to see another name from the past! and that bloody scirrocco! i recon it was the whole F3 under that shell not just the engine!
Al also agree, what a shame to hear about Roger especially after id recently posted about him being such a nice bloke. He taught me how to do cadwell the quick way but he still passed me going over the top at mountain!
PS Rob R59 do i know you?

You never know!

I started in Super Road Saloons in 1990 with a Nova Sport, won Class D in 1991, then created my self a nightmare by converting it to a GTE for 92, runner up in Class C in 93, then the engine explosions started in 94! Started 95 with a bang when I was wiped out in the first corner of the first race at Mallory, spent the season rebuilding it, took it out in the Winter Series and had a ding-dong battle with Dave Pearson (Fiesta XR2) for the lead at Silverstone in the rain. Fast Car ran a feature on the car in 96 with Chris Goodwin driving it (couldn't get him out of it!). Between engine failures and lack of budget (what's that) ran it sporadically through to the end of 97 when bricks & morter put paid to it for a while. Rebuilt the engine with steel rods for 99, didn't get it out due to other work, then came back in ModProds in 2002, did a few more rounds in 2003. Finally got it on the pace in the last meeting and got took out going into Seagrave at Thruxton which deranged the suspension. The bought the Empress built Vauxhall Belmont Thundersaloon to run in Formula Saloons. There lies another nightmare! And last year I ran in the ASCAR/SCSA series at Rockingham with a Pontiac GrandPrix.

Rob.
