Simon Durling won the first runoff, Martin hit the wooden sleepers over bunnies.

After frantic repairs Martin won the second and got FTD.

Martin still leads the championship as Scott didn't have a very good weekend. Roger Moran didn't qualify for either runoffs. Rob Turnbull had a big accident at Martini and had to be taken to hospital for a check up. The doctor who looked after him said it was just precautionary.

Tom New won 2 litre class and qualified for both runoff as did Tony Wiltshire, Will Mason qualified for the first runoff then went straight up the escape road in the runoff and in the second timed run!

Anuauto has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Results of all Woolbridge Motor Club hill climbs are usually on their web site within an hour or two of the event officially finishing. Does any other club have such a record?

Glad that Turnbull's hospital trip was only precautionary. I was down in the Esses when I heard a series of massive bangs, and initially (judging from the sounds) I was worried he must have gone off on the straight before Martini.

As it was, it was a big accident. When I got up to Martini, I saw somebody's digital camera footage, that showed he was launched over the bank on the inside of the hairpin (must have lost it under braking?), flew threw the air sideways and hit the bank hard with the right side of the car. The marshals must have had a very lucky escape, not to mention the spectators.

Here's some (rather rubbish) pictures I took of the wreckage once Rob had been safely removed -

Looks fairly hefty, and the reports I've heard suggest a pretty big shunt, so very pleased to hear that Rob's OK. The car seems to have done it's job well. Also very pleased to hear eveyone else escaped a worryingly close shave - hope everyone's dealing with the after effects ok, but don't be bothered about picking up the phone and talking to someone about it.

Finally, many congratulations to Simon on another win. They seem to be like buses. Nothing for ages then two come along together.

If anyone does have any news on Rob's condition - it would be much appreciated.

Superb job, as ever, by the marshal team.

Rob Turnbull

We chatted with him this morning at his camper at Wiscombe. He is in fine form but has a plaster cast on his right foot where he will need a small rivet or two.

His main annoyance was his expensive helmet, which now has VOID where the sticker once was.

I thought people would like to know.

We wish him a speedy recovery.

On form!

According to the Doctor who attended Rob at the incident he was swearing like a trooper and very annoyed!

It really was an awkward period whilst he was being assessed hence the lack of information over the TANNOY. However we were being kept very much in the dark so were unable to provide any accurate updates.

I have subsequently learnt that 'the place looked like an aircraft crash site!' It appears that the car bottomed on the last big bump on Castle Straight (possibly on the large titanium skid plate?). It then climbed the left hand bank, aviated over the apex of Martini and 'belly flopped' into the bank. All this happened at high speed as the HB was on-song and Rob hadn't got on the brakes when it all went wrong.

I am very relieved to hear that Rob is already on the road to recovery as I felt awful when I first heard the news.

Latest News

The following just through from Woolbridge Motor Club:

Just to let you know that Rob Turnbull was back at Wiscombe Park approx 8.30 - 9 pm on Sunday evening with a fractured ankle in plaster.

John Forsyth spoke with Rob yesterday, Monday, after Rob had driven home and apart from being a little shaken and bruised Rob is OK. He is having his ankle pinned at his local hospital and is hoping that it will only be 6 weeks or so before he is able to get back on the hills. (The car will need one or two new parts but also suffered remarkably little damage).

Rob was very appreciative of the efforts of all those involved in the incident.

Rob is always appreciative of any work undertaken by marshals,as are many other drivers, and is a great champion of our cause...
Its good news that he escaped serious injury and good news that the car stood up well to the impact........Well done Gould....

I'll second that. Having seen that one from a range that I never want to see an incident from ever again, I can testify that the pictures don't tell half the story of how violent that was. The fact that the drivers cell was in such good condition is stunning. David & Sean and the team at Gould should be very proud.

What happened at Wiscombe/Wiscombe Videos Etc. (merged)

I have posted 2 clips of the Turnbull and Groves 'offs' at Wiscombe.

I know they will be of interest to the hill climb community and are there in the best interests.

The videos are on Steetfire and the links are on the www.2T4T.co.uk website.

Both videos show just how well their vehicles are built for them both to have survived without serious injury...

Another big up to Gould..

It appeared as though the track was very slippery during Martin's run as the car wanted to swap ends pretty much all the time...

Thanks very much for posting those. Groves' accident was as I pictured it, having seen the damage to the car being fixed and the big dent in the wooden barrier! And now I have a much better understanding of how Turnbull crashed from that rear view. I saw someone's amateur footage of the car flying through the air at Martini - if anyone has it, or your own footage, I'd appreciate to see it again, now that it sounds Rob is comfortable with footage being online.
