I'd had Rob's shunt described to me, but that's a really clear video of the start, and happily not of the end. It could so easily have been so much bigger - he's a fortunate chap. Mind, fortune comes with good preparation and as blackx says, well done to Goulds for building such a strong car.

Wiscombe
Yes indeed the track was still a little slippy from the overnight rain. Looking at the footage surely this shows spectators how dangerous motor sport can really be and this is why such restrictions are placed upon the viewing points of many / if not all of the hills and circuits around Britain. This comes after spectators asking us on The Wiz why they were not allowed to stand where we as marshalls were standing.
It is great news to hear that Rob is ok and hope to see you back on the hills soon. Also may i add to what has been said about the structure of the Goulds and add to the praises that everyone at Gould are recieving and quite ritely so. |

I remember thinking at the time, only the engine and the driver cell of the tub look ok. Almost literally everything else on the car was bent, broken or bust.

It was very awkward at the time as the commentary team were asked not to say anything about who was involved and how severe the accident was. Everyone in the paddock and at the top of the hill knew who was involved but we had to just skirt round it. Eventually we were allowed to give some limited details of what had happened. I was delighted later in the year to see Rob at Curborough and I am similarly delighted that he is back racing again. |
