Formula Student
40 completly unique 600cc bike engined cars designed and built by students. The event took place last weekend at Bruntingthorpe, CVT cars, 4WD, all sorts. I wrote a report and Motorsport News are printing it on the 16th - great stuff.
Heck of an event too cars from India to America and from Iceland to Suoth africa. The was even a car from strathclyde! The problem with formula student is that the cars on the whole do not meet MSA standards simply due to the fact that the regs don't specify that the drivers feet must be behing the centre line of the axle.... real shame. Anyone here got any experiences of the event or being a motorsport student? |

Although the event is organised for IMechE in this country, it originates from SAE in USA so it probably conforms to some regulations over there. It is always great fun for competitors and officials and gives many engineering students their first experience of a practical event. 750 Motor Club have been organising the dynamic part of the event in this country for about 4 years and this year took over more of the admin. I've marshalled it since 750MC started their involvement.

I have got more useful technical info from Formula Student web pages than just about every other source put together.
Imagine having access to tens of thousands of physicists, mathematicians, materials technologists, structural engineers etc etc for free!!! Keep up the good work and new/wacky ideas lads and lasses. |

Yup - I've got about half a book to write on the cars - am kinda toying with the idea of doing a book just about formula student.
