I don't know if the nose is any higher than in 2016, mostly as they're using the same tub design as last season.

Problem with my concluding that they're using the same nosebox as last year is that the catwalks between the front fenders and nose are of a weird shape and seem to encase a lot more of the nose, to the point where the jackbolt holes for changing the nose are now on the catwalks instead of the nose like last year.

Per SC365, TMG hired a couple of ex-Audi Sport engineers shortly after the end of the 2016 WEC season.

According to Kota Sera blog,
Toyota changed the headlight to LED in order to visibility improvement and weight saving (2kg).

Japanese Samurai, is that 2kg total or per light? Either way, that's a good amount of weight savings. I like that he pointed out the sidepod inlet-

I saw that in the PR photos and wondered if that was for more air flow to the diffuser. The R18 model had that feature as well.

Here's a short interview with Vasselon on E-I. He speaks about Kunimoto earning the seat in the #9 on merit.

That is almost a second quicker than the 2008 P1 pole. Maybe this year the cars will be able to match 2015 cars at Le Mans. Yes Le Mans is even more power dependent than Monza, but it is as close as it gets. Also back in 2008 turn 1-2 and 4-5 had much lower curbs allowing to carry more speed through them.

toyota top speed is lower than porsche, but anyway seems to be faster in S1...
do you explain this because of a more high drag/downforce package by toyota or because drivers lift several meters before trap speed?

There isn't really much cornering dominated by downforce in S1, Curva Grande is flat. So either lifting before the trap, or simply better low-speed traction and acceleration out of the first chicane.

They were running different programs, Toyota may have lifted on straights, and Porsche, especially Lotterar, had the stable long-run pace, so it will be close fight (Someone posted a graph).

I think the positive thing (besides setting the 4 best times) is that this is still a young car. If it can get even better with more testing and time, they will be have a really strong package. And Lapierre and Davidson both did two 1:30's a piece, that was nice to see. Kunimoto was setting some decent times considering it was his first time driving Monza.

love how the Toyota's Driver lineup consists of drivers from various disciplines. We have Rally, WTCC, ex F1, Formula E, Super GT, and now Sarrazin is off rallying again!

jp.motorsport.com reports Hisatake Murata interview.
https://jp.motorsport.com/wec/news/w...%81%86-889433/

Murata mentioned the transient response that affects the comfort of the driver.
Toyota digitized the drivability, and seeked with drivers point of compromise between drivability and performance.
Drivers dislike lift-off (off throttle pedal) very much. In contrast, they don't feel uncomfortable with off hybrid-boost.
However, it effects performance very much.
So while observing all the disadvantages of controlling the transient response with motor/engine and the improvement of the lap time, they finally decided the figures with agreement of drivers.

Is it me, or does the TS050 in it's current form look kinda like an Audi R15 with a roof and a pointy nose?

Even though the implementation is TMG's own, it's not surprising, as I'd think that the 2017 Audi R18 would look somewhat similar, since both the stillborn updated R18 and the updated TS050 do employ a form of the simplified channel bodywork that was largely discarded from the 2009 R15.

Thanks for the link. Lots of other information about the engine is in there too. Anything more in the Japanese media about the efficiency targets they set? Murata spoke a lot about that improved efficiency in the article.

Murata also said (in this article):
There has been no major trouble in testing.
They focused on efficiency, fine-tuned turbines and downsized MGU. They managed to optimize turbo operating points.
The battery performance and service life have improved significantly even at the cell level thanks to the efforts by their in-house specialists.
Their LDF ran long distance at Aragon for endurance and setup, and then came to the Prologue where they focused on setup.
