Eurosport To Abandon F3000 Tv Plans

in http://www.formula-3000.net/

EUROSPORT TO ABANDON F3000 TV PLANS
by Tim Gray - 12/04/2002

Pan-European broadcaster Eurosport is set to abandon its live coverage of the International F3000 series this season, because of rising costs.

Scheduled coverage of the Brazil race was replaced by football, and the broadcaster has not sent any production crew to Imola.

It's not a poor excuse, why would Eurosport want to drop F3000 otherwise??

It's the sponsors that make this sport possible, and Bernie should be thankful if television-networks want to broadcast a complete season (Live!) because it will attract more sponsors and make them happier. Instead, he wants to make profit out of the broadcasts, and that's just not how it works. If Eurosport cannot pay it, that's just the way it is and they shouldn't spend lots of money on 1 program while it could be used for 5 different ones. It's a good thing they said "no" to Bernie, eventhough it obviously is so f**** stupid for us viewers.. I was really looking forward again to F3000 :/

I am with you Rempie.
It is a fact that the all sport lives thru us, the fans. Eurosport is a TV broadcasting company, they have lots of other sports. So in my opinion it all goes down to how much does the F3000 governing body wants to have it known. Very few people outside racing fans can name a couple of F3000 drivers from last year, imagine this year with no Eurosport coverage how will the drivers compensate their sponsor's investments, how will they raise their game ??? No Sponsors = No Drivers = No F***** racing ?!
As a fan i just can say ... PLEASE make this deal happen, cause i want to see T Monteiro win it LIVE ON EUROSPORT!

Actually you might not be too far wide of the mark, my understanding of why the F3000 is not on the Digital service is because Eurosport held the exclusive live TV rights, now if they are going to drop that, it leaves it open to go back on the Digital Service.

(If I remember correctly, F3000 was on the digital service in it's very first year before Eurosport took up the coverage).

But you know how these things are, don't hold your....

Sky Digital are showing the Porsche Supercup tomorrow morning. The digital F3000 coverage was on DSF channel in 2000,along with regular coverage on Eurosport. Sadly I can't see Sky,ITV or BRITISH Eurosport, bothering this year as there is not a single British or Irish driver entered.

Highlights of F3000 races will be shown in sequence in the next few months on ITV.

I feel it is Eurosport and not Bernie, because so much motorsport has gone of eurosport now, CART, DTM, and the NASCAR is never on time and sometimes they forget to show it.

Eurosport has lost the might of ESPN, so now Canal+ have to front all the bills, perhaps the fact that Canal+ is overall deeply in debt may have something to do with it.

ITV has to show the F3000/Porsche/Rally "Internatinal Motor Racing" program, it's part of their contract with FOA.

DSF have shown it (live & highlights) in past years, channel still free on analogue satellite receivers at ASTRA. But don't know if they'll continue this year, though I guess so.

As Rob29 said, Motors TV should hopefully also show it this year. They had season reviews of German F3 and the "Top Ten" package (includes German F.Renault), which is also usually covered by DSF.

1993-1996, including the year when it was called the ITC.

I suspect either Eurosport or Screensport had it before that, but as I didn't have a dish before '93, I couldn't comment.
