Volvo 5th manufacturer?

Just been reading some comments from Westie on tocatour about Vauxhall, and he says in it "Proton, Peugeot, Vauxhall, MG, and maybe another..."

So the most obvious would be Volvo? He said in that Egg Sport supplement in the times at the start of the year that Volvo, he thought would be back, so could we be in line for manufacturer No. 5?

I dont reckon your far off here, Rydell hinted on Eurosport that he would like to return with Volvo although I would not stop at 5 manufacturers I think we will see more join in and hopefully the big names will return.

With Volvo comitted to the new ETC rules I find this very unlikely. Volvo has put a great deal of work in to the new rules, and as FIA demands three manufacturers for the new ETCC to start I cant see Volvo prioritising anything else than the ETCC. And with the ETCC rules being so far away from the BTCC, well...

Volvo will only go to the BTCC if the FIA don't give the new ETC rules the nod.

It could be that Ford will commit to the ETCC through Volvo, and then run Mondeo's in the UK series. Any thoughts?

Nah, it wouldnt be very sensible if you think about Fords motorsport strategy:

Ford - Rally
Volvo - Touring Car
Jaguar - F1
Aston Martin - Sportscar

Actually i'd guess that F1 and the WRC are the two most expensive motorsports.

I heard that a 2002 Subaru WRC costs just under half a million quid.

Thats true, but I think Mr Meissner is right with the rally part for Ford.

Well now the FIA have given the green light for the ETC, will we still see Volvo's in 02 BTC?, They are being built by Prodrive too.

Prodrive are said to be building the C70 for the ETC so if that car proves as good as the Ferrari, I would expect a few privateer cars to turn up in the BTCC soon afterwards.

It would be great for the series to have Volvo back. I still have fond memories of the 850 estates being raced! Good old Tom Walkinshaw, even he saw the funny side and allowed the cars to have labrador's in the back on driver parades.

As ETCC rules are different from BTCC rules that's very very unlikely

And its a S60, which in my opinion would be too big for BTCC rules.
