At the risk of being off topic.
Massa is managed by Jean Todt. And i can't figure the significance of Massa's relation to Todt with regards to the issue at hand. Does Jaguar have a relationship with Renault then because of Mark Webber? And if your argument is to hold water..then hasn't Minardi become a training ground for Renault and Flavio's drivers? Trulli, Webber and Alonso all had their first ride in F1 racing with minardi..does that mean Renault is getting information on Bridgestones illegally? Ooopss |

I thought that the rules where that a tyre supplier, if asked to, had to be able to supply up to to 60% of the field, not a maximum of 60%

Think of it from the point of view that Sauber are looking to get cheaper Mercedes customer engines.
It makes a little more sense then. |

The 60% rule, as 1200Datto27 suggests, is a you must be prepared to supply 60% of the field, if requested. You can supply as many teams as you like above that amount.

Sauber have had a long relationship with Mercedes, I'm sure that McLaren would also like to get data on the Ferrari engine (albeit a lower spec one)

Key words up to I checked with the Michelin racing site where the rules regarding tyres are listed and it says up to but not ecceeding 60%. Michelin have admitted talking with Sauber so it therefore begs the question Who are the dropping from the program? The Grumpy1 P.S. two tyre suppliers present: each of them must, if called upon to do so, be prepared to equip up to 60% of the entered teams on ordinary commercial terms; The above is from www.michelinsport.com |

I always thought that "UP TO" by default meant "NOT EXCEEDING"

No, it doesn't. There's no maximum you can supply.
Up to means you can't supply less than that, if teams ask you. |

Peter Sauber has categorically denied the rumour. "There are no plans in that direction at all," Sauber told Atlas F1 and quoted by sportnetwork.net.

He's denied it - so we'll probably get an official announcement it's happening in the future!
