Liquoriceman should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Is Shaun playing games again or has there always been a picture of Mat Jackson in an Airwaves Focus on his workshop wall?

Well we can hope, if it keeps Jackson on the grid, it’s worth it

Read the replies. They supported him that year through personal sponsorship.

I understand that Bartrum may have been annoyed. But if that is the reasoning, it's petulant at best. He's lost a class act of a driver, so has — potentially — the BTCC and it smells like some sponsorship too.

If the manufacturer Honda gig came knocking, I think every driver on the grid would at least have talks.

Let's sprinkle some extra conspiracy dust into the mix:

I've just seen on Twitter that Ciceley Motorsport have liked one of the news stories about MJ's departure from Motorbase. What can it mean?!

Most likely.... absolutely naff all

I find the hashtag #mint more interesting. The MGs are often described as crooked and bent worn out chassis, but this should rectify that.

Going on the logic of Twitter likes, ironically this firework salesman may now get Jacksons drive 4 years later

..i think he also suggested on Twitter his 2 races with the team in the past were "the time of his life"

Thing I don't get is why would Jackson need to take a wage anyway? He works for the family dealership and does McLaren testing work doesn't he?

Why wouldn't he take a wage? Who'd turn down more money?

Any shrewd racer will take a wage from his sponsorship money. Then use it as a form of insurance should sponsorship dry up at any point in the future. You don't think a race team uses all the money from drivers and sponsorship to break even for a seasons racing do you? They are a business and there to make money.

Everyone saying Jackson won't have a drive but PMR have had a 3rd astra built this week can't see them building it for no reason unless it's going to be racing this year due to the build costs so could that be a possibility? Or maybe even a 3rd Honda?

Could simply be building a spare in case the worst happens; Motorbase had to scrap Davenports car after that nasty accident at Croft and missed the next meeting due to having to get a new car built from scratch.

not confirmation but "expected to run three cars"

guess it depends what was better for them, selling the TBL or taking James Coles money

If that statement doesn't confirm that it was a sponsorship situation that cause Jordan and Motorbase to part ways, I'm not sure what could.
Yes, I totally agree... I simply wonder if 'commercial reasons' was just used as a convenient story to save party A having to state that party B failed to live up to expectations.

Genuine commercial reasons could include:

Sponsorship clash - although hoses and shredded wheat don't. If driver A was sponsored by Shell and team B by Texaco that would be a big no no for example.

The Jordan's getting the WSR ride cheaper (commercially better deal)

Pirtek feeling the Motorbase car wasn't so good and the WSR more likely to be a winner therefore more exposure for their brand (again commercially better)

AJ and his dad fancying nice discounted/free BMW roadcars rather than Fords.

Could speculate all night!

I am pretty sure it is Oliphants Merc from a decidedly odd angle to leave people guessing. I think we're looking at the front screen diagonally over the A pillar and the Dunlop badge is on the sun shield sticker.

WIX have an existing sponsorship connection with Ciceley... having moved from title sponsor to associate last year. Little bird chirped that WIX would be more involved this year.

Edit: the more I look the less convinced I am... but the nugget I have heard that WIX are title sponsoring one of the Ciceley cars - remember they promised a couple of pieces of big news and "all" we've had is Oliphant in a second car.

AmD have already announced RCIB Insurance and AutoAid Breakdown as title sponsors for the MGs, so unlikely they will be in WIX yellow

No disrespect to Michael Caine but if I was Tony Gilham I would be doing everything to get Mat Jackson on board. Likewise Amd. As we've just seen what's a signed contract worth these days? Surely the reason 'a better driver has become available' is a valid reason for terminating a contract. Likewise 'a better car has become available'.
