I believe all people who get in these machines and race, no matter how good or bad they are, are brave.

The bravest I believe on that day was Damon Hill, not knowing whether Ayrton had a mechanical problem which put him in the wall or not, and driving exactly the same spec car, he must have had that in the back of his mind whether he was going to have the same problem. that's not meant to take the focus from the others who were on the grid that tragic weekend.

RIP Ayrton and Roland.
I remember this day all those years ago, one which I will remember forever for all the wrong reasons. It literally was one of the worst days of my life. OLE OLE OLE OLA, SENNA SENNA, OLE OLE OLE OLA, SENNA SENNA. |

please forgive me if you have read this before, but it is good to rmeember what a great and fun guy Roland was;
Roland could certainly take care of himself, though. He was the one westerner in Japan who could go toe to toe with Jacques Villeneuve in firecracker tossing. And Jeff Krosnoff was famous for catching people off guard, too. JV was famous for tormenting people with surprise firecracker lightings and Roland was the most good natured of all about it. He would just have a good laugh, but he was such a great guy that no one would have ever suspected he would seek revenge. But one day at suzuka, Roland caught JV answering mother nature's call, and he rolled a big cherry bomb (remember THOSE?)in the door. KA-BLOOEY!!! But not before Jacques ran out of the restroom with his pants around his knees! Jacques never threw another firecracker at Roland. |

I wish I had been there to see that! What a wonderful picture!
But while we are remembering the terrible things that happened that weekend, remember that Rubens came very close to being killed on the Friday; in fact, many people said his accident actually looked worse than the other two! I remember reading that when he came back to consciousness the first sight he saw was Senna, sitting by his bedside. And two days later ... I really do think Lauda was correct when he said that on that weekend G*d lifted His hand from Formula One. |

In fact Barrichello was saved by Proffessor Sid Watkins who managed to grab his tounge to prevent him from swallowing it, or that's what I heard anyway.

Thanks for that, Paulzinho. Yes, that's how we want to remember him - not in the Williams, but in the McLaren, victorious.
