I can remember it like it was yesterday, I know exactly where I was when I first saw the accident.
Still unbelievable. RIP |

I remember it too well. I'd just moved house to Banbury (the home of Simtek) from Didcot (the then home of Williams). A very emotional weekend.

I agree with David Brabham that there should be some form of memorial at Imola for him.

Agree too. Its's strange how you remember events that hit you hard. I can remember exactly what I was doing that sad weekend - I was at Prescott Hillclimb and had a sad drive home.
Some nice tributes to Roland (and Ayrton of course) on the internet and the idea of a memorial plaque is popular: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/27068212 Scott |

I read the interview with Nick Wirth, who founded Simtek, and I think he still hasn't come to terms with this yet.
I think Brabs has it sorted. I think both are still terribly upset by it. RIP Roland, never forgotten, if possibly overshadowed. |

I didn't see the qualifying that weekend, but heard about it on the news. At that time I probably believed F1 would never see another death, it having been 8 years and so many safety improvements in that time, so that weekend was a real eye-opener. Roland was probably an anachronism - he got to F1 on pure grit and determination rather than being well-funded or necessarily the most gifted driver. Everyone seemed to love him even before Imola.
