Super Coupe's-New Class?

I have heard that it is likely that a new "open" type class may be intoduced to the Super Coupe Championship next year which will allow things in like Honda Integra's etc...anybody know more on this? I would imagine that spares/panels for the CRX's/Tomcats must be dwindling by now. The championship is excellent though it may need a new lease of life-perhaps this is it?

I think this is possibly an excuse to combine numbers again.. With the dwindling numbers of Clios and R5s (I hear a rumour that there are *no* racing Clios left - they've all been written off?!) they combined them into a "Renault Combi" class. Perhaps they're about to do the same with the Tomcats/CRXs, or introduce a "Honda Combi" class.

I'm surprised the CRXs are still going as well. You never see them on the roads though

There must be loads of cars eligible for this championship if they have an open class. The Vectra's started off well but seem to have dwindled. The Clubs ought to look at all cars that would not be too fast for the series and are in Championship that have less than 15 cars in them then force an almalgomation.

Suspect Chris may be right about the lack of Clios. Wasn't the only Super Coupe regular Clio totaled at Brands last time out. Same with the R5s, Paul Lomax's was severely bent at Brands, which leaves Deb's car and the Barbie pink one which surely must be on it's last legs by now.

Not sure about the idea of an open class. You'll get the usual arguement over parity of performance within the class.

I'm not sure about an Open class at all. The Super Coupes now seem to have got to a point where only one race, with a reasonable grid, will be required. With an Open class you'll probably get two poorly-supported events.

Which option makes more sense to you?

The last Brands round had reasonable grids for both races. The competitors are registered in good numbers. Seems to me that you have a divide in most championships: A. those that will chase the title no matter what, B. some who just love the racing and are willing to go out and have fun no matter where they finish, C. those that pick and choose the circuits they fancy doing when they can fit them in. Unfortunately "C" seems to be the one after half way in the season...holidays, work, no chance of a title anymore etc, etc. Personally I think championship organisors should include incentives to keep competitors racing all year. I can understand blown engines, body damage etc can cripple the hard up racer easily but something needs to be done to keep racers racing no matter what the championship is throughout the season...ahh...I know...entry fee's!!!!

Thing is with the problem of combining for one good race or split for two poorer ones is the fact that on some occasions the combined grid will be too many, won't it? Currently they have about 15 in each class, so 30 cars is too many for some circuits, yet two 15 car races will be a little duller. It's about finding the balance. As for the R5's, doesn't Mark Cox still drive his?
