2013 FIA European Formula 3 Championship

The F3 Euroseries is history. The FIA European Formula 3 Championship will replace it for 2013.

Quote:
The 2012 engine specification is still allowed. The evolution of certain key aerodynamic elements will be frozen to limit costs and ensure the stability of the regulations. Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz will be the two main engine suppliers, and South Korean manufacturer Hankook will be the series’ tyre supplier

Media coverage of the Formula 3 European Championship will be mainly focused on digital media and social networks. The races will be shown live on European television networks. Website user will also have the chance watch live streams of the races each event weekend.

2013 provisional calendar:

23-24 March: Monza (FIA WTCC)
12-14 April: Silverstone (FIA WEC)
4-5 May: Hungaroring (FIA WTCC)
18-19 May: Brands Hatch (DTM)
1-2 June: Red Bull Ring (DTM)
6-7 July: Norisring (DTM)
20-21 July: Zandvoort (DTM)
17-18 August: Nürburgring (DTM)
14-15 September: Hockenheim (DTM)
October: TBA

There will be 3 races in Germany, 2 in the United Kingdom, 1 in Italy, 1 in the Netherlands, 1 in Austria and 1 in Hungary. I'd love Spa and Pau, but that's British F3 territory.

So

The future of British F3 is in doubt despite they act first to offer the merge with FIA's new Euro F3 championship

But British F3 hold several of my favourite F3 tracks (Pau, Spa), will they still try to merge or keep it on their own?

No doubt about British F3.
SRO have tried to work with the FIA on a joint calendar but sadly the FIA do not want to discuss it.
However so as not to create a war SRO are trying to modify the British Calendar so the minimum number of dates clash allowing teams to compete in both series if they so wish
The British still have the best circuits as DTM use shortened circuits at Nurburgring,Hockenheim etc

Since the modifications of 2002, they have only used the full version. Except once, but it resulted in a big pile-up for the DTM, so they've used the full track ever since.

No reason why not
The FIA F3 series is just a renamed Euroseries. The British Series even without the major support of Mercedes and VW has done very well in the past, mainly because better full GP circuits are used and extra testing is allowed.

Wish I could answer that....what has happened is that drivers with manufacturer support have joined Euroseries/FIA as expected...however some have said that they will compete in the British as well....no clashing dates envisaged. Currently information from the teams is that we have 7 International Class drivers agreeing terms with more drivers in discussion and then we have the National Class entries.
We are hoping to have a minimum of 12 International cars with extra National cars and then extra cars at some of the prime events, Spa,Paul Ricard, Nurburgring ,Silverstone GP.
Sadly the late decisions from the FIA re the Euro series has meant that some drivers have joined other catagories weakening F3 overal in 2013

Why is nobody chanting Signature's return slogans? Nobody knows F3 resource management better than a vengeful Philippe Sinault.

Why doesn't the British series just run 20 National class cars - be cheaper & more exciting...

Because they own 13 Dallara F312s approximately £17,000,000 worth?

I reckon British championship will fill up pretty quickly over the winter, such a good championship that motor-racing probably couldnt do without!
