I borrowed a Cooper S for the week and got somebody to drive it for me round the circuit, I said no more than 40mph but looked round to see 70mph! Afterwards I found a problem with the lens I'd used and only about 3 or 4 pics were any good but by then it was to late to re-shoot...."S*** happens" as they say!

Wow Knockhill there are so many good places to take photos, but I think this is my favourite of the weekend.

How do you get your JPEG image so rich?

That's how it comes out of the camera. My shots are taken with either a Canon 1D or 1D MK-II in RAW mode, converted to TIF for publication and then JPEG for the web. I don't do anything to them other than re-size.

I took this photo yesterday at Brands. Not perfect, but I was happy with the shot.

Here is a favourite of mine;
http://jamies-motorsport-photos.foto.../p6951583.html

Shows how close the action was!

KennyG, I asked about your images because once I save mine to a JPEG image I loose the sharpness ever so slightly and it's not quite on par with the original quality of how they came out of the camera. I just wondered how saving to a JPEG form does not seem to effect the quality of your photo.

They are really sharp to start off with and down-sizing just takes the edge off. I tried a small amount of USM - 35,0.6,0 on the really small ones for here and it just introduced more artifacts. So, the trick is to get the larger image tack sharp and resize for 10-10ths. Elsewhere I'd post at 800x530(ish).

Ken, When I shoot on my Nikon in RAW mode it takes a lifetime to write each shot to the card. how do you get round that?

OK, you're all ignoring me now, think i'm KPC do you
Well I tried setting the camera to RAW mode and gave it to my mate at Silverstone today. He took some good shots but missed one of me shooting a 4 foot flame from my exhaust when I spun at Copse Not only that I am now left with 51 pictures to convert to jpeg
Stinking with jpegs in future.

falce, I imagine you are using a D70 or 100, and your RAW write times are greatly affected by card speed, so a faster card will help, if its a D100, the buffer is rather limited, so you cant expect much for NEF shooting, even a D1X without the bufffer upgrade is limited.

As for getting NEFs to jpeg, Nikon View has this function, under "tools" you'll see "copy and save as jpeg" which can save them as jpegs up to a limited size, it works more orless alright, but slowish, as with most programs. On my Mac (very middling processing speed) it takes about 12 sec per NEF. Quick and nasty, but it does the trick for easier viewing of shots and selection.

ken, great angle with the wheel set apart nicely against the sky. The MK11 looks like a lovely bit of kit as you Brits are wont to say, you must be enjoying it. In everyday use, are you finding the battery life to really be 3-4x that of the 1D (thats what the blurbs say anyway) strange that they didnt go Li-ion, but again, must be nice to use the same batteries/charger with the 1D.

cheers

Sorry to be late in catching up with this.

The cameras I use (1D and 1D MK-II) are lightning fast at writing RAW and the MK-II has a huge buffer so you can just keep hammering away. At £2,500 and £3,000 respectively they are supposed to be like that.

Now, these were from the days when half of the people here were being conceived in the back of the road-going versions. Oulton Park Gold Cup, taken from Old Hall with my 1D MK-II and 300 2.8IS.

Here is a favourite of mine from the BTCC at Donington - mainly because of the reflection in the tarmac;
http://jamies-motorsport-photos.foto.../p7945695.html

Although I quite like this one too, mainly because its taken under braking for the next corner (Redgate) and the lighting around the image is pretty perfect;
