Mallory Lap Record

We had the 250 Gearbox Karts at Mallory today and they were quick! We timed one of them as doing 44 second laps.

Which of course brought on the question - what IS the lap record round Mallory?

As far as I know, the outright record is still held by Johan Rajamaki (38.something). Anyone know if that still stands or has anyone gone faster?

Yes, that is still the record. 38.23s in May 1997.

I have a feeling that it is a record that might not be beaten.

38s - that is mind blowing!

I lost my marshalling virginity with Laurel and Hardy on post 4 and those karts were flying! One had an off and stalled on the entry to Gerrards and needed a push to get going again - it was bloody scary standing on the edge of the track with the karts going by at 120 odd mph (at a guess). Hats off to you Marshal types - I'll see you in a different light in the future!

I believe the "unofficial" record was set sometime ago when Nelson Piquet tested a Brabham there prior to Monaco ( slow corner acceleration tests) and lapped somewhere in the mid 30's

I remember it was quite quick.

Current BF3s test there and do 39/40s IIRC.

A current F1 would doubtless be low 30s with an F1 driver!

They said the top speed of the Karts was around 150 and they did not seem to brake into Gerrards so I think you could add around 30 mph to your guess Simon.

I was on the hairpin that day, and awesome doesn't begin to describe it. Into the Esses without braking, just down a couple of gears then stand on the brakes at around 85 yards before the hairpin, taking off 140-odd mph. Every lap... Brilliant.
