F1 04... help...
Ok...i finally...got my PS2 fixed last week and got f1 04 at a cheap price from my friend....
So after 3-4 laps of trying to get used to the game at Melborne...my car feels good.... I go on a hot lap..nailing every corner to the maximum and it is a wonderful 1.30.128... turns out the computer people are nailing 1.25's and with Jenson Button i quallify below the Minardi's.... thing is i dont understand where i couldve lost 5 secs...i took decent lines through most of the corners.... Is it the setups? Ive never been good at car setups or rather i dont have the time to sit doing 100 laps to get the perfect setup and the car felt good.....in f1-03 i was able to do 1.25's at Melborne and the top pace at most Gp's with minimal setup changes.... WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? AHHHHHH |

Practice Mr Fan. As far as setup is concerned, a big starting point is to adjust the camber so the tyres are all square with the ground, you get a bigger contact patch and far more grip. That should give you a second or so.
Give yourself the thick brake pads, soft tyres, lower the car a little, tailor the downforce levels to your liking, stiffen the springs etc.... Failing that, brake later and accelerate sooner!!!! |

change your tyre compound to soft and set the steering to maximum, that should give you 2 or 3 seconds. I'm actually finding qualifying a bit easy if you have the right car, Williams or McLaren, clean lap of Melbourne and you can find yourself on pole by a couple of seconds

Buy a steering wheel! Once you get used to it you can go miles faster because you get greater control over the car because you can be much more balanced with the throttle and brakes, rather than getting all or nothing by pressing buttons on a joypad.

All of the buttons on a PS2 joypad are analoge, so a wheel won't make that much difference.

hmm...finally managed my first victory in the hard level at Malaysia...eventhough i wasnt doing the very fastest times (probably half a sec. slower than the fastest lap over a single lap)... i won by 40 secs with Alonso.... The key is to do 1 stop less than the others... probably a glich in the game but i was doing almost similar times on a heavy tank while the rest just sucked.... no fun...but a win is a win...... (BTW WTF is wrong with Webber in the game...the guy doesnt let you lap him.... and when i finally did he almost knocked my front wing off....luckily he pit within the nest two laps... )
and im improving with my setup work as well managed a 1.26 at Melborne which isnt the quickest but better than the 1.30's....YAY... sorry FF i guess youll be the only one in the "bad gamers" group... |

Is that a full distance race you did ralfie....I wouldn't bother. The computer is thick as pig **** on races where you have to pit! They jam on the brakes on the pit straight and often lose ten seconds on some laps. They also always pit more than you and yet can't utilise the low fuel runs. Very unrealistic and as you say, boring.
Nice to know you're progressing! |

Oh dear, I think I need to stop messing with career mode and start practicing! My huge problem is I really can't qualify on the pace, so I'm left in 20th and then get left behind, is it easier to catch up than it was in 03?

Yeah i noticed about the full distance thing.... ...i was running 6th...and then they suddenly started to go very slow on the staright...and went first...
Once again another f1 game that isnt totally up to the mark... guess Sony thought there wouldnt be anyone jobless enough to actually play full distance... |

FF..if your playing hard level then it isnt easy to catch up...unless you are playing full distance where the computer acts brainless and always goes for 1 more stop than you..
basically you need to go to testing option and just do some laps and get a feel for braking pts etc....use some of the setup tweaks highlighted in this thread and..basically practice alot... |

It's actually insanely easy on all difficulty levels after about two days play.

Yay, I won the (shortened) Malaysian GP. I qualified 2nd, overtook Alonso before I got to the first corner, and he only overtook me once, but I got my lead back. Oh, and don't know if this makes it any better that I won, but it was VERY wet.
