Le Mans 2005 entry list gossips

Eurosport (french broadcast at LM today for the Motorcycle GP) gave this information today : Hugues de Chaunac is looking forward to enter a Maserati at LM for 2005, with Alain Prost at the wheel.

I'm just trying to recall if Prost has ever raced at LM, or in fact raced in any sportscar at all.

I think he had some conection with a team in the past but only in the management as I recall.

Anybody remember anything more ?

2005 should be the start of LM/sportscars getting back to their best.

Notice that I named the thread "gossips" : despite it comes from telly, nobody confirmed yet... it could as well be an hoax. But regarding the test Prost did recently, those "public talk" on a non confidential channel brings something more reliable to the initial rumours.

Would the Maserati be ok under the ACO rules?
If it did race then we would see, Lambo, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati, Corvette, Saleen, Pagani & maybe Porsche all hoping to get in under the ACO's rader for an entry in the GTS class.

Incredibly - unless someone has a BIG surprise to spring - the favourite to win Le Mans 2005 has to be an Audi R8. That being so, I can't see Audi unveiling the new car, the so-called R9, until 2006, or perhaps even later. Why rush?

Sounds like it might be going back to the '95 race. Put JJ in a good car please and I hate to say it but some rain in the night and JJ in an Aston at tetre rouge.

I would think by the end of 2004 the Zytek will be the undisputed pace setter. With more works backing, these cars should also have the reliabilty to match the speed.

2004 will be the year when the R8s are caught and passed, IMO

He is raced for Oreca (de Chaunac) in the winter ice racing series (coming second behind Muller the ice racing king).

A similar suggestion was made in this weeks Autosport.

And the karing track at Le Mans is named after him!

I don't think so. If the r8 begins to show some weak signs, audi will put some massiv work effort to recover.Remember that Zytec is a little company compared to vag.Only another constructor will be able to beat audi..... Maybe Nissan, time will tell.

I think Audi will leave the R8 pretty much untouched, and focus on the R9/10.

If the Zyteks have the reliability they will be huge favourites for the next 3 LMES rounds. Monza was not a Zytek track, yet the works car lapped as fast in the race as the R8 pole time.

Audi will want competition in order to convince other manufactuers to enter LMP1 cars.
