Doubt it. Even though they could make it ~250kg lighter (it has to run as heavy as 1350kg in the VLN), it would also mean that they'd get restrictors slapped on to get the horsepower down and I simply don't think that it would generate enough downforce to compete with the current crop of cars.

Besides, they won't get homologation anyways.

Can a turbocharged car be competitive in FIA GTs?

Dunno about turbocharged cars in general, but I do know that all attempts to enter turbocharged 996's in GT1 have been terminated by restrictors. A:Level, PSI, both cars wich have the potential to do proper laptimes, but both don't stand a chance in FIAGT or LMES because of the restrictors.

So why doesn't the FIA alter the regs to encourage turbos?

Well I've read some time ago about possibility of joinig FIA GT and JGTC, and creating World Champioship (2006). In that case, FIA will have to create class(or modify existing) for all Supras, Skylines etc.

Awesome idea BTW

Call me a stick in the mud, or a traditionalist but im just not crazy about the idea of the JGTC and FIA GT merging to create 1 world championship for GT machines. The FIA GT/ALMS/LMES have just got together a common set of rules, and now theres talk of that changing already! Whatever happened to rules stabilty?

That went skywards when it was realised FIA GT may have grids of less than 20 cars next season, hence the introduction of the G2 class!

I agree on you if the JGTC's stay like they are now. If they'd adapt more to the ACO phylisophy though I think they'd be a pretty nice addition to the field. Right now they're too prototypeish to fit in, would be interesting how those big manufacturers would react on possible rule-changes in JGTC.

Regarding rules stability: Imho they should just use the ACO rules for all championships, with perhaps national classes if needed/wanted. This is probably easier said then done though

No chance JAG, FIA GT would likely have got the same grids as in 2004, that is around 26-30 cars per race. The reason why the G2 class has been introduced is so that the series can obtain maximum grids of 36 cars per race, and u have to admit it was sort of pointless to have empty grid slots when the situation could be rectifed so easily.

So Porsche will have no problem being beaten by an unhomologated BMW M3 GTR V8!

JAG - remind me. What happened at the Spa 24hrs? Sure at Spa this year the BMW's qualifed ahead of the Porsches, but within the first hour of the race the Porsches were past them on pure pace. The BMW's will add some much needed variety, as will the TVR's and Moslers.

i think the Mazza deal is for sure. If AB was to run 2 saleens, then why was Uwe testing a Viper, instead of a Konrad Saleen at Estoril? (and there were 2 Konrad Saleens at Estoril, one of them was chassis 002r, the Vitaphone car that ran this year)
