Drifting at Oulton Park

Hi Guys,

I am just making a post to make you aware of the drifting they hold at Oulton Park. The reason why I am doing this is because there is a lot of intrest in drifiting in this area so wanted to make sure you guys knew that you could take part yourself. From what I can gather from other people who do it (I drive a 1 litre corsa so no chance of me doing it ) that it is great fun and fairly easy on tire wear due to the polished surface.

I hope this helps some of you to try your hand at drifting as you are obvisouly very intrested this section of the sport

Thanks,
Matt

I'm sure the drifting fans on here will be pleased that you let them know . Not my cup of tea but I know there are plenty of people who are really into it.

it is also held on quite a few race days, not sure who runs it but iam sure a quick phone call to the office at oulton park will sort you out.

didnt realise this but, the rally course which they run the driftin on is actually quite rare. because it has polished glass marbles in the tarmac it makes the car react like loose gravel, apparently loads of rally teams use it for practice as its the only one of its type in the country

We run some driftdays at Oulton, we also find people come along as an opportunity to practice their general car control and get a feel for how their car reacts in a slide. There are two rally stages -

we run both stages on our days so the drivers can swap between them as they wish, cars queue up to go out and are released individually every 20 seconds or so; they complete a lap and then wait to go out again, typically waiting is only a couple of minutes because we limit the number of entries so drivers may get well over a hundred runs on the stages over the day .

As Matt said, the tyre wear is low, virtually zero in fact and pretty well any rwd, and most sporty 4wd, cars can drift on this surface. We also use local specialist instructors to help out on the events to make sure everyone gets the hang of it .

We are just a trackday forum and we run these events and some trackdays as a bit of fun and a chance to get more people on circuit, our next driftday is on Saturday Sept 26th, if you'd like to come along then please shout up or click HERE!

I'd be interested in the Sept date, dependant on prices and what the noise control limits are.

Price is £140 for the day but we do a club rate that we could get you in on at £120. Noise is 105db static same as the Oulton trackdays.

I was parked in the Paddock opposite the drifting circuit this weekend with lots of time between races to watch the antics - It was impressive to see how well drivers picked it up during the day, one guy was throwing his BMW into the corners well into the afternoon with considerable style despite having lost a headlight and his front bumper in the morning session. Given the conditions we raced in on Sunday I should have watched them more carefully.

I was at Oulton this weekend. The drifting looked like great fun and those Skylines sounded lovely when walking through the woods to Druids.

Steve H

We had a great day on Saturday at Oulton –

There’s more photos of some of the cars HERE and a bit of video HERE

Just want to say thanks to all those that came along, it was a really friendly group with people blagging rides in each other cars etc – makes it an enjoyable day to run.

We’re looking forward to our trackday now at Oulton on Nov 13th and our next driftday will be on Dec 19th so I’ll be posting a thread up about that one soon.

Cheers

Looks Cool. I was watching the classic rally cars on that track at the Gold Cup weekend, great little circuit.
What is sprayed on to the track? it looks like an ice rink!

It's just water, the tarmac has a very high stone content so it's slippery and very driftable when it's dry but they water it to keep the tyre noise down.
