Too many options not enough announcements
That would be what i'd call signifigant. Otherwise its just blah really.

We know VESI like to blow things out of the water...but this does sound rather big. Either new brand coming in or a new international race after Abu Dhabi this year

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
so who are the melbourne based teams

HRT have a Holden contract.
KR, an obvious and already discussed team
GRM, a previous link to Chrysler, but that doesnt mean anything
FPR have a Ford contract for next year

it really does have to be Kelly's 4 cars team ready to go

Given that Uncle Garry sat at the head of the Nissan Dealer Council, and would have a very good understanding of new car structured margin, dealership holdbacks, cooperative advertising allowances, manufacturer incentives and the like.. as well as having seen first hand the showroom traffic the previous Group 'A' and Group 'C' Nissan Motorsport programs had for the company as a whole.. its not an impossible opportunity...

Indeed the GRM shed these days is a former Gibson Motorsport facility, however it only prepared Holdens and Fords... the Nissan shed was a couple of blocks away...

they say "it will be a complete surprise to everyone".....if its a new manufacturer....then they really need to get amongst the supporters....because they are so out of touch

or maybe it will be some really good news like Cockraheaden is leaving the sport altogether..

So... if Nissan is coming into the V8Supercar arena... and if the story Mr McKay wrote in the Herald recently is right and Kelly Racing are the intended destination for their support... what happens to the car sponsorship?

Nissan made a big thing of XXXX not sponsoring the GT-R Safety Car a couple of years ago, not wanting alcohol sponsorship to be associated with motor racing, and their brand...

... so a team with 2 cars apparently funded by an alcohol brand.. might cause a few issues... you might think anyway...

A new title sponsor or three might be required if Kelly Racing is the destination... ?

Agreed David, arh the irony if it is Nissan.

Under the new spec series regulations, could a team run a nissan without nissan factory supporting the team or series?

NISSAN is set to be a shock inclusion on the V8 Supercars grid next year with powerhouse Japanese manufacturer to announce tomorrow it will be taking the fight to Holden and Ford.

In an historic inclusion which V8 Supercars claim will bulletproof the future of the sport, Nissan have agreed to re-join the series in 2013 in a move which will inject hundreds of thousand of dollars into the sport and place a wedge between the iconic battle between Holden and Ford.

The bombshell entry will also give several lowly placed teams the ammunition to take on the likes of Holden backed team Vodafone, with the manufacturer to pull out the cheque book in a bid to upset their manufacturing rivals.

Made possible by the Car of the Future program headed by Holden legend Mark Skaife, the coup has been three years in the making.

The Kelly Racing Team will tell Holden they are defecting to the Japanese company.

News Limited also understands the announcement, to be made by V8 Supercars and Nissan tomorrow at Crown Casino in Melbourne, will be the first of many.

Several other manufacturers, including Chrysler, have been in talks with the fast growing series and are also expected to join the Aussie bred fight.

Both Holden and Ford have welcomed the new competition with Nissan’s inclusion likely to help address the uneven split which this year saw 17 Commodores taken on 11 Falcons.

Holden backed driver Jamie Whincup won the series.

Nissan were last in the series in 1992, with the manufacturer ironically supporting Skaife, the man who helped court them back after a 20 year absence.

Car of the Future has helped make Nissan’s inclusion possible with a host of control parts to be used next year.

a Nissan what though?

It really had to be Kellys, they were always the best placed team to take on a new manufacturer. 4 cars ready to go and now significant holden sponsorship.

BJR are another obvius choice and i guess DJR as well for a future manufacturer

I guess if it isnt one of them the SBR are high on the list, i believe ford funding dries up at the end of this year for them unless they re-sign

Well its going to get pretty interesting.

One wonders now if any other manufacturers are tempted that seeing someone else in first might get them more interested.

Could we see Nissan via Infiniti and Toyota via Lexus duke it out?

Well with the publicity this will make...they won't have trouble in finding a new title sponsor. Nissan will probably bring more $$$ to the team than Jack Daniels anyway.

You would expect a manufacturer imposing various rules on team sponsorship and operations to be providing enough financially to cover the shortfall from taking a smaller major sponsorship.

I recall hearing that Vodafone impose various rules on 888, such as only running 2 cars and ability to veto certain secondary sponsors. But given Voda are the biggest paying sponsor outside the manufacturers, it's reasonable.

I'll make a bold prediction!

Nissan to GRM
Chrysler to KR
Lexus to SBR
Nissan to err.. another team

The kelly boys would like chryslers because then they could put hemis in their ski boats.

Mr Rogers - well its been said here re his previous links to nissan

And one final left field one - DJR to Hyundai.
