Best Bathurst
Watching old footage of the Great Race, what was the best ever Bathurst 1000, now I know it will be personal opion, but I thought a interesting topic.
My three picks are 1. 1977 Ford / Moffat 1-2 ( The 1st ) and Closest finish. 2. 1989 Dick lead the whole race bar the first 3/4 of the 1st lap 3. 2006 Ford/888 win after a long drought. Close 3rd 2007 the last 10 laps were the best racing |

Even though I had a leaning to Ford when I was young, '90 and '95.

Bathurst 1991.
The very best touring car in the world, prepared in Australia by Australians, with one Aussie and a Kiwi aboard... took the gun out of the holster early and just went... BANG! Come Alive. Come and Drive. NISSAN! |

The year later would be the worst 1000 of them all IMO. |

Why?
Best race - 1993, 1998 would be up there. |

For me 3 of the best are
1987 (Bathurst on the world stage, great variety in cars, rain, and controversy) 1994 (Mulitple leaders, very even field, dramatic finish) 2000 (Same as 1994 with an even competitive field, unpredictable result, and ever changing weather) |

Obviously i was aware that they were TSR,s personal picks as that is why i mentioned that HE looks like he had HIS "blue" goggles on which i don't believe that he would deny and there is no problem with that. |

Really difficult to pick just 3, but i will go with:
1977 for the famous 1-2. 1984 for the combination of the icons of the sport competing head to head and the great looking cars of that year. 1995 for the Perkins last to first effort and the memories of a shattered Glenn Seton. |

1993 Just proved you only need 2 cars to put on a great race
1995 LP last to first... fantastic tie 86/90 Gricey against the odds twice, against the factory and against the Sierra's |

May not necessarily be releated to the quality of the race, but definitely my three Bathurst highlights:
1984 - My first motorsport memory. Then being taken to the James Hardie building in town to see the winning car. My love affair with Brocky and Holden were born (I was 5 and a half); 1990 - My first trip to Bathurst. Holden won. I was at Forest Elbow when the DJR Sierra went pop. 1994 - A ford won, but a favourite for a young punk name Lowndes taking it to Bowe in the latter stages of the race. 1996 for the wet start; 1987 for the race cam vision (Brock and Seton) were also both memorable. |

1976. Wounded Morris struggling to the finish.
1977. Ford 1-2. 1973. Pete Geoghegan getting Moffats car back in contention for the win. |

1993 for me. An American racing program at time aired 20 minutes of it and it changed the course of my life.

Later Bathursts, in the last three years. Older Bathursts in the early 1960's and 1970's if you could get some sponsorship to get on the grid, then you could race. It was not the same thing as the modern race. Poor safety standards , Gentlemen Drivers, bog stock cars vast differences in car performances. It was a survival and endurance event ,rather than a race
