Anyone coming up to Race Retro pop by auto jumble . I have a stall with MG David. We might need cheering and warming up . 😀

I was there for an hour or so. Had a meeting, then had to shoot to a kart track. Sorry I didn't get to the Frozen North of the show, didn't realise you were going to be there or if have made a detour on my way back to the lorry.

BTW if you ever want free access anywhere, drive an old bread van. No-one stopped me on my way into the showground!

I did get to the Hall 4 Arctic Circle, mainly to see the polar bears who have migrated there. This year was one of the coldest ever, so great respect for the Hall 4 stallholders and Nanook of the North, who said it was too parky for him.

I have been to every year of RR, seen it through ups-and-downs, but I must say that this show felt the most diluted of the lot. There were too many fool frippery stands and not enough cars, (not even in Hall 2) too much artisan cheese/patisserie/fwah gras and not enough engineering.

I would have given the Connew and some of the ground-effect cars spotlight space in Hall 2 not Hall 3, and I had hoped there might be a Escort Mark 1 special compound.
I am a firm supporter of the Show, but if it does not get back to its roots next year, then I think that will be my last time.

Iain I admire your dedication. I'm in a Premier Inn tonight and tomorrow, no way I could sleep on site. Does this mean you've left Arkwright Smith in charge of your stand? He he he

Well, the lad I was thinking of seemed not to be around so I left it with the chap on the main gate who had also been standing in the group I was talking to on first arrival - though I confess I did not remember him.

All in a good cause. Hopefully.

Lots of new tarmac around the outside of Donington replacing the dusty/muddy tracks. That's a good sign I hope.

All good at R Retro, currrently zero degrees. Just got rid of Chris Dear after a pleasant evening of conversation and banter accompanied by olives & crisps followed by tortelloni & bol sauce washed down with a good red, finished with choccy mousse then your choice of whisky or armagnac. Suitably fortified to face tomorrow's onslaught....

Sounds idyllic. I'm off to the track after a dinner of chicken at a Beefeater but my mechanics couldn't get chicken in a fried chicken shop. Oh the irony!

Had another good day trip out to Race Retro again, although being on crutches meant I didn't have much of a change to walk around the halls and see as much as I would normally do. Seamed to be a lot busier this year, certainly more of a wait to get in once the doors were opened at half 9, maybe changing the opening to 9am might help. The live rally Stage run by the lads from rallyingwithgroupb.net was a great watch as always, maybe a few more GroupB machines would be ideal but there was still lots of sideways action to keep the crowd entertained.

Anyway here my vid from the Stage if anyone interested:

Interesting to see different perspectives, but I thought that this was the best RR that I have been to, and I have been to most of them. I thought that there were more cars on display than recent years and I liked the fact that the organisers had tried to spread things out by having good displays and a mix of other businesses across all three of the main halls rather than concentrating on one "major" hall. This spread the crowd out and spread the interest.

The exhibitors I spoke to all seemed to have been busy and were happy with the changes.

Far better than Autosport.

My only comment is that the rally world seems to persistently miss the opportunity to promote it's sport/ clubs with very few rally organisers/ clubs displaying despite the major draw of the live rally demonstration.

I was underwhelmed with this years RR. Some of the regular long term stands chose not to attend, and there was a higher percentage of tat stalls.

I was surprised to see the Motorsport stand in Hall 3, rather than Halls 1 or 2. The principal sponsor would normally be in a higher profile place.

The concept of a historic or club level motorsport show is fine. However I think there are elements of the execution that needs looking at, either the timing of the show, the venue or the organisers. If my other half hadn't volunteered to man a stand this year, I'm not sure I would have bothered going.

Fresh ideas needed.

I enjoyed it, haven't been for a couple of years but took my time and mooched around all the smaller stands that I normally give a miss. But we could do without 10 stalls selling pics of McQueen's V-sign. Seemed to be waiting for me at every corner.

More control over photographers this year, with compulsory briefing. Something I expect at all race meetings in the near future. A few copyright images, more www.retro-speed.co.uk

Lovely show, perhaps the best yet, and I have been to most of them. A highlight was the interview with Brian Redman, who had us all in stiches. The 908-3, with his legs protruding ahead of the front wheels..."a good racing car for Douglas Bader!"
Great racing driver. Lovely bloke.

He was superb , but I expected nothing less. His aural description of the noise his 917 made , as it got wheelspin at 180mph in the wet on the Mulsanne sent a shiver down my spine. Hero .
